The Oscar nominated star Leonardo DiCapriohas donated $3 million to Oceana, the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation.

“Protecting our planet’s oceans and the marine species that call it home is one of the most pressing sustainability crises facing humanity today and a moral imperative that we must acknowledge,” The Great Gatsby's star stated in a press release.

One of the campaigns that will be supported by DiCaprio's grant is Oceana's aim to ban drift grillnets off of southern California. The fishing nets target swordfish and thresher sharks, but whales, dolphins, sea lions and sea turtles are among the other endangered animals that fall victim to the devices.

This donation is among DiCaprio's continuous environmental conservation activity. Last November, his foundation donated another $3 million grant for Tiger conservation in Nepal.
