Counselor Ahmed Elbaqly, general defendant of the Northern Giza public prosecution, has filed an arrest order against belly dancer Safinaz, accusing her of insulting the Egyptian flag by wearing a dance suit bearing its colors and the eagle for a performance at El Ein Elsokhna resort city.

Al-Agouza prosecution have earlier received a notice from a business woman and hotel owner living in Mohandessin, in which she accused Safinaz of the aforementioned “crime”.

The woman used the law decreed by former president Adly Mansour which incriminates any insult to the Egyptian flag or refraining from standing upon hearing the national anthem, and also article number 223 from the Egyptian constitution which states that “The Egyptian national flag consists of three colors: black, white and red, in addition to a golden eagle based on Saladin's eagle. The law decides the republic's motto, insignias, crests, stamp and national anthem, and insulting the flag is a crime punished by law.”
