In 1955, on the eve of the Tunisian Independence Day. Paul Rivière refuses to leave the land he has lived on, and Betty, an Englishwoman, meets a man to marry for convenience and prepares to leave with him but becomes attached to his son Wanis. The young man, however, is attached to Rivière.
