Habiba, a widow, takes care of her two sons, Mawas and Mustafa. Her brother, Sheikh Mukhtar, who has two sons, also lives with her and Aisha, whom Habiba raised after her parents died. Mawas manages the family factory and oversees the land.
Habiba asks the worker, Makhawi, to bring the factory records for review and plans to marry him to Aisha.
Habiba thinks about marrying Mawas to another woman because his wife, Salma, is unable to have children. Mervat asks Makhawi to help her marry Mawas, and Mustafa joins the political students at the university.
Salma goes to Warda, without Mawas' knowledge, who takes advantage of the opportunity and beats her. She leaves the house and returns to her father's house. At the same time, Makhawi tells Mawas about Mervat.
Habiba searches for a new wife for Mawas to fulfill his dream of having children. Mawas chooses Mervat as his bride, and a wedding date is set. Meanwhile, Umm Muhammad, Sheikh Mukhtar's wife, asks that Soraya marry Muhammad because he loves her.
Mawas marries Mervat and she lives with him in a big house with Habiba. Mawas begins pressuring the farmers to sell their lands so he can plow them for large sums of money. Habiba confronts Mawas, but he denies it. However, Sheikh Mukhtar reveals the truth to her.
Habiba asks Salma to return home and live with her co-wife, Mervat. Mawas refuses Mustafa's marriage to Warda and tries to kick her and her parents from the village.
Mawas falls in love with Mervat and prepares a fake copy of the factory's ledgers to deceive Habiba. Encouraged by Mawas, Makhawi asks the workers to spread rumors about Mustafa and Warda to force them to leave the village.
Mawas continues to excavate the land and secretly make and sell bricks. He asks Aisha to do the housework and give credit to Mervat in exchange for money. Aisha leaves the house.
Mawas lies to Habiba and tells her that he regrets his marriage and that he will divorce Mervat and return to Salma, but he continues with Mervat after buying her a villa.
Mawas writes the villa in Mervat's name. Habiba asks Mawas to list all the property and distribute it between him and his brother Mustafa, but he steals large sums of money from his mother's account under the pretext that it is in exchange for his work and effort.
Habiba gives Aisha some of her belongings, and Mustafa succeeds and is appointed a teaching assistant at the college. Habiba discovers that money has been withdrawn from her account, and Mustafa tells her it's in exchange for Mawas's work.
Habiba divides the inheritance between Mawas and Mustafa fairly, but Mawas refuses and tears up the contracts. He then buys a car for Mervat and writes it in her name.
Habiba searches for the original land ownership contracts but can't find them. Mawas tells her he has them. Habiba tells her brother, Sheikh Mukhtar, that she wants to divide the entire inheritance between her two sons alone.
Salma announces her pregnancy to Mawas. Habiba fires Makhawi, demands all the accounting books, gives the workers a day off, and then closes the factory.
Mawas brings Salma back home, refuses to divide the inheritance, tears up the new inheritance delivery contracts, and the October War breaks out.
Mervat demands half of the factory from Mawas, but he evades her. Mustafa returns from the war after his battalion is besieged in the breach, while Muhammad is still absent.
Sheikh Mukhtar's son, Muhammad, is martyred and buried in the village. The townspeople demand that the school be named after him. Mervat tells Mawas that she is pregnant.
Salma gives birth to Zainab, and Mawas prevents his mother from controlling the factory and sends the workers back to work. Mervat gives birth to Nemat, and Mustafa receives a scholarship to study in France.
Mawas travels to Cairo to discuss exporting fruits and vegetables and meets Hala. Mervat reviews the factory's ledgers and fires Habiba. Mustafa meets Nashwa, who will travel with him to France.
Warda succeeds in high school and enrolls in medical school. She refuses to travel with Mustafa and continues her studies. She meets a teaching assistant at the college.
Mustafa marries his colleague Nashwa, the ambassador's daughter, and they travel together to France. Mawas meets Hala frequently, while Mukhawi asks Sheikh Mukhtar to marry him to Soraya, the fiancée of his martyred son. Mawas sells the factory to Azmy.
Habiba and Mukhtar discover the sale of the factory and try to convince Mawas to cancel the deal. Mawas travels to Cairo and decides not to register half of the factory in Mervat's name due to her greed. He then opens an import-export company with Hala's help.
Mervat makes peace with the family, offering to give up the villa and the car. Aisha gets engaged to Khaled, and Mawas forcibly returns Marwa to the big house.
Mawas proposes marriage to Hala. Mustafa decides not to continue his studies in agriculture, and Mawas decides to sell the land because he needs money.
Mawas takes advantage of Mustafa's power of attorney to manage the land and secretly sells part of it. He then assaults and humiliates his wives, forcing Mervat to leave the house.
Mawas marries Hala in an informal marriage, and Mustafa's wife gives birth to Hani. Mawas is forced to stop his work due to the hunger uprising that erupts, and Mustafa returns to discover that his land has been sold.
Mustafa confronts Mawas with accusations of injustice and usurping people's rights. Mervat throws Mustafa out of the villa, which leads him to divorce her. Warda gets engaged to a university professor.
Mustafa returns to France and divorces his wife. Hala convinces Mawas to sell the companies and partner with her in a private hospital. Nashwa marries another man and Habiba offers to raise Hani. Habiba goes through a financial crisis and decides to sell part of her property.
Habiba refuses Mawas's money because it is illegitimate. Warda cancels her marriage, which angers her father and beats her. Mawas sells the rest of the land to Makhawi, and Hala asks him to build a hotel on his land in Haram.
