Nazik discovers that her husband, Selim Al-Badry, has lied about his trip to the desert; the truth is that he has taken another wife called Alia. Selim faces financial troubles after one-quarter of his factory's shares are sold to his old rival, Soliman Ghanem. Selim discovers that Alia is pregnant.
Selim lands in hot water when Alia's father reveals the truth about his second marriage to Nazik. As she confronts him, their heated conflicted ends in divorce. Soliman seizes the chance and proposes to Nazik, who insists on maintaining the right to divorce herself from him.
Taha Al-Samahy, a freedom fighter, takes refuge from the police in Selim's mansion. As Nazik weds Soliman, the two plot to seize Selim's factory and mansion. Selim decides to enter the world of politics to face off against Soliman Ghanem.
Taha Al-Samahy is arrested. Alia dies in childbirth. After Nazik has a daughter with Soliman, she decides to divorce him and leaves their daughter in his custody. Nazik reconciles with Selim. Selim runs for the parliament.
Selim discovers that his father had an old feud with the Al-Samahy family. Nazik asks Selim to remove his son from the mansion. Soliman rallies his supporters in a bid to win the elections. When Selim decides to fire the factory's shift supervisor, Tawfik resigns in protest.
Tawfik proposes to Alia's sister, Anisa. As Nafisa asks Tawfik to return to his job, the latter allies with Soliman in secret. Roqaya discovers that she is Isma'il Al-Badry's daughter. Nazik gets pregnant. Selim Al-Badry wins the elections.
Roqaya decides to move into Al-Badry's mansion. But when she is forcibly seized and admitted to a mental hospital, it's revealed that Selim is the one who planned the whole thing. During a German raid, Al-Badry's mansion collapses. Tawfik informs Zeinhoum that Roqaya is his cousin.
Nazik gives birth to a boy called Adel. Tawfik weds Anisa. Nagat visits Zeinhoum after she weds Taha, who travels to France. Nafisa refuses to allow Nazik to breastfeed Ali. Selim leaves for Europe on business.
Anisa takes Ali in. Selim tries to buy new machines for his factory. Tawfik decides to increase workers' daily wages. When Zeinhoum is imprisoned, Samasem gets his apartment. Tawfik's alliance with Soliman Ghanem comes to light.
As Tawfik manages to convince Soliman to sell his shares in the factory, it's revealed that he has been plotting to deceive Soliman all along. Soliman insists on payback. Selim is taken hostage by the Germans. Tawfik hides the factory deed from Nazik.
Going against Tawfik's advice, Nazik refuses to give into Soliman's monopoly on yarn, but she is soon forced to reconsider and agree to Soliman's conditions. Nagat finds herself in trouble when she falls pregnant while her father remains unaware of her marriage.
Nagat's father is furious when he discovers the identity of her husband. As Selim's family tries to find out any information about his whereabouts, the Germans deny having him. Nafisa dies from her grief. Work at the factory comes to a stop.
As Selim Al-Badry comes home, Anisa asks him to leave Ali with her to raise him. Selim tries to reach an accord with Soliman Ghanem to save the factory, but the latter stubbornly refuses. Selim and Tawfik put their heads together to try and figure out a solution to get the factory running again.
A major fire breaks out at the factory and Selim accuses Soliman Ghanem. Selim considers selling some of his properties to get the factory running, a notion that leaves Nazik in hot water as she is forced to reveal that she sold all his properties to herself. Taha returns from his travels.
Nazik refuses to receive her daughter when Soliman's wife tries to give the girl to her, which incurs Soliman's wrath. Zakaria lands in trouble when he kills two British soldiers.
In an attempt to make up for what he did to her, Selim decides to sell the factory to Roqaya. Nagat decides to turn herself in to her father to save the neighborhood people who were arrested. Taha tries to figure out a way to save Nagat. Zeinhoum is released from prison after serving his sentence.
After five years, Taha Al-Samahy decides to quit his job at the factory and return to his patriotic fighting. Selim tries to get the title of Pasha through a poker game with the king. Soliman decides to sell his land to make up for his losses during the cotton crisis. Samasem gets pregnant.
As Ali goes to his father's house, Anisa searches for him everywhere. Despite Selim's wish to have Ali live with him, Ali decides to return to Anisa and Tawfik. Selim buys Soliman's land after the latter faces financial troubles. Soliman decides to give his daughter Zohra to her mother, Nazik.
