A fortune-teller predicts Amal's death when she reaches the age of seventy-three. On her seventy-third birthday, Amal gathers her family and begins to tell them the story of her life since she grew up in the orphanage, the death of her grandfather and her friendship with Zuhair.
Amal goes to stay with Anis and his wife in the village to take care of them, and there, she meets the wealthy man, Rabie, and they catch feelings for each other, but she learns from Somaya that he has a foreign girlfriend named Laura. Rabie's sister, Salma, treats Amal in a cruel way.
Amal is sad after seeing Rabie and his girlfriend Laura at Salma's graduation party. Salma's engagement to Ramez is announced. Amal refuses to be insulted by Salma and leaves the party. Laura likes Amal and gets to know her.
Laura tells Amal that she is about to return to Paris, and Rabie asks Amal to travel with him and Laura to Beirut. When Laura feels that Rabie loves Amal, she confronts him and warns him not to manipulate her.
After Salma discovers that her fiancé is cheating on her and her health deteriorates, she tells her father about Rabie and Amal's relationship. Meanwhile, Rabie spends his evening with Amal on the beach in Beirut, and the fortune-teller tells them that their relationship is doomed.
Amal returns from Beirut with Rabie and she is unaware that Somaya has lied about her being in a relationship with Rabie, as per Salma's instructions. Rabie refuses to wed his sister to Ramez because he is ill-mannered, and Somaya confesses to Amal what happened.
Rabie agrees to Ramez's marriage to Salma, who feels that he wants to get rid of her so that he can marry Amal. Ramez apologizes to Salma for what he did, and Rabie agrees with Amal to hide their relationship until he returns from abroad.
Amal learns to read and write after Rabie travels. In winter 1952, Zuhair visits Amal at the village and Anis provides a job for him. Ramez brings a woman to the palace, but her husband kills them. When Salma learns the news, she loses her fetus and the ability to have children.
When Rabie returns from abroad, he finds his father paralyzed and affected with heart disease. He knows what happened to Salma, and feels remorse for agreeing to her marriage to Ramez. Laura suffers from cancer. Rabie marries Amal secretly without the knowledge of his family.
Amal and Rabie travel for their honeymoon. When Laura's health deteriorates, she asks Salma to forget the past and deal with everyone with love, after which Laura decides to return to Paris.
Zuhair reproaches Amal for hiding her pregnancy from Rabie before he travels to Africa to undertake his father's business, and he confronts Rabie with his fears about Amal's fate. Salma asks Ibrahim to convey all Rabie's news to her from abroad.
Rabie sends a letter to Zuhair with Ibrahim and asks him to hide the matter from Salma. Rabie's health begins to deteriorate and he decides to return to Lebanon. Ibrahim reveals the secret to Salma. Rabie's father changes his will in favor of Amal and Rabie.
After her father dies, Salma claims that Rabie's having an affair with a girl abroad and that he extended his travel period. Amal gives birth to her first daughter, while Laura dies of her illness. Rabie's journey to seek treatment for malaria in France continues, and his condition worsens severely.
Salma asks the lawyer to open her father's will despite Rabie's absence, and she discovers that Amal gave birth to Rabie's baby. Zuhair decides to travel and search for Rabie in Africa. After Salma asks the lawyer to hide the will and threatens him, she kidnaps the child Laura and flees to France.
Salma registers the child as her daughter and changes her name to Soraya. Amal sells her first literary work to come up with the money to travel to France to find Rabie and her daughter Laura. When Amal arrives in France, she learns from the nurse that Rabie is receiving treatment in Germany.
Amal arrives at the hospital in Germany and finds Rabie unconscious. Susan and Zuhair plan to hold an exhibition to sell Rabie’s paintings to cover the remaining treatment costs. Rabie wakes up, sees Amal next to him and learns that he has a daughter who was kidnapped by Salma, but he dies of severe illness.
After her return to Beirut, Amal gets her right in the inheritance. Years pass and Amal knows where her daughter is in Paris, and she asks Zuhair to get married and take care of his life, but he refuses. Amal gets her daughter back, and Salma dies on Amal's 73rd birthday.
