As Reda asks Atef to find out why he was prevented from distributing the leaflets, the Ottoman forces attack the mountain, trying to find the revolutionaries. Aida, Wasim’s sister, objects to his joining the revolutionaries. Wasim and Najib smuggle wheat from the mountains to the people.
After being stabbed by an Ottoman soldier, Najib enjoins Wasim to look after Maryam and his son, upon which he dies of his wounds. Wasim decides to take up arms in addition to journalism, but Reda warns him of the danger. As Maryam and Emad collapse after Najib's burial, Wasim tries to console them.
Emad gets angry after learning of Wasim's family's close relationship with the pasha, who feels Officer Raed is sympathizing with the revolutionaries and rebukes him. Sami gets angry about what the family is going through because of Wasim, whose mother arranges a meeting between him and the pasha.
As Maryam witnesses the pasha’s meeting with Wasim, she sees how Wasim answers him firmly as well as his adherence to the revolution. Wasim promises Nada that he'll avenge Najib. As Aida asks the pasha to put an end to the Ottoman occupation, Sami asks Aida not to get carried away by Wasim’s ideas.
Wasim and the revolutionaries meet in Maryam’s house. As the Ottoman military storms the area and starts shooting, Wasim gets shot in his hand, and four soldiers are killed. When Reda tells Aida, she insists on going with him and the doctor to Wasim, who receives treatment.
Aida asks Reda to stand by Wasim as he's a loyal friend, but she gets angry as she feels that Reda is criticizing her for the luxury she's living in. As Wasim wakes up, feelings of love begin to develop between him and Maryam. The pasha orders the execution of intellectuals after their arrest.
Reda asks to leave the house due to the wave of arrests in the village. Maryam looks for Emad as she fears for him due to what's happening. A rumor spreads that the pasha was killed. Aida confesses to Reda her concern for him. Wasim learns that soldiers raided the printing house and arrested dozens.
Reda confesses his love to Aida, who reminds him that she's engaged. Wasim leaves Maryam's house and goes to the square to check on his comrades; the pasha asks for his arrest. Aida's mother's angry at her daughter, who's grown attached to Reda and his revolutionary ideas and refuses to marry Majdi.
The revolutionaries are executed. Emad asks his mother to marry Wasim. At her mother's insistence, Aida tells the pasha of her objection to the execution of the revolutionaries. After Reda saves Wasim from Ottoman soldiers and kills them, he tells Wasim of his love for Aida, whom the pasha arrests.
Wasim’s mom asks Maryam to tell Wasim of Aida’s arrest and ask him not to turn himself in. The pasha tells Aida that he will not let Wasim get away and will arrest him. Noha tells Maryam that she knows she's seriously ill and that she'll die soon. The pasha orders that Wasim be killed if he's found.
Maryam informs Wasim of Aida’s arrest and asks him to be careful and not to turn himself in. Reda promises Wasim to save Aida. As the chief officer learns that the pasha is angry at him and has ordered the soldiers to kill him, he thinks of escaping to the mountain and joining the revolutionaries.
Nazem, Aida's uncle, tries to get her out of prison by any means. Emad finds out that his aunt Noha's condition is deteriorating in the hospital. Aida continues her hunger strike. Officer Raed deludes the pasha into believing that he will go up the mountain to capture Wasim.
Wasim and Maryam leave the mountain and go to visit Noha in the hospital. As Nazem asks Wasim's mother to leave the villa immediately and go to his house, Sami refuses to leave with her. Majdi insists on going with Aida and Raed to the mountain, after which the plan succeeds, and Aida escapes.
The pasha learns that Wasim's mom left her house, heading to Nazem's. As the revolutionaries clash with the Ottoman troops on the mountain road, Kafa dies by Ottoman fire. Wasim kills an Ottoman soldier who assaulted Emad and Maryam. Sami refuses to reveal Wasim's location as the pasha tortures him.
Wasim proposes to Maryam. The pasha orders that the property of Abul Saad and Nazem's families be confiscated and that Officer Raed and Wasim be executed. The revolutionaries gather in Nazem's house and send the pasha a mutilated body, passing it off as Wasim's, so he'd lift the siege on his family.
Three years have passed since Wasim, Aida, and Reda traveled; Sami looks for them in vain. An order is issued for the retreat of the Ottoman forces from the city. The occupation evacuates Lebanon in 1918. Reda and Aida return after they've had a daughter named Kafa. Wasim returns and marries Maryam.
