Commander Raynald refuses to return with Louis VII's campaign to France. Raynald promises the soldier Joseph to search for his wife Sophia, while Nur al-Din is upset that his wife is unable to have children.
Nur al-Din appoints Saladin to lead his armies, so Saladin insists on getting his father out of Damascus before his uncle invades it. Raynald claims to Constance that her husband cheated on her with Queen Lenore before his death.
Queen Melisende suffers from her son Baldwin's interference in power. Najm al-Din fails to persuade the ruler of Damascus not to cooperate with the Franks, and Saladin claims the lineage of Sophia's son as his to protect her from murder.
Aglas, the daughter of Count Gosselin, the ruler of Edessa, is is shocked by Ismat al-Din's order to pay a large ransom to free her father. Aglas is surprised by Saladin's defense of the soldiers who tried to capture them.
Aglas thinks about capturing Saladin and Naser al-Din, but she is surprised that they escape after attacking Raynald and Joseph.
Baldwin seeks to invade Egypt. Nur al-Din refuses to believe Saladin's story about the Crusaders' intentions to invade Egypt. Ismat al-Din is surprised that her husband sought help from Rashid to assassinate Mujir al-Din.
Raynald claims that Saladin ordered Rashid to kill Mujir al-Din, and Saladin is arrested. Missland falls into the hands of Baldwin after failing to defend Jerusalem.
Aglas asks Amaury to offer false loyalty to Baldwin. The vizier Abbas kills the caliph al-Zafir, so Zahraa Misr seeks the help of Tala'i, the governor of Upper Egypt, to take revenge on him.

The Emir of Byzantium prepares for Baldwin's marriage to Theodora in exchange for giving up Acre as a dowry, and Nur al-Din's health improves.
Baldwin marries Theodora. The oracle tells Aglas that she will be queen of Jerusalem. When Shaizar falls into the hands of Baldwin, he refuses to assign it to Tenri, and enmity arises between him and Raynald.

Ward Shan refuses to marry the Caliph, so he intends to kill her father. Aglas poisons Baldwin and he dies. Nur al-Din agrees to Saladin's opinion not to exploit Baldwin's death to fight the Franks.
Aglas claims that Theodora poisoned her husband. Saladin is surprised by the Franks converting the Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock into two churches.
Shawar flees to Damascus, and ibn Munqidh stipulates that Zahraa Misr return Shawar to his position to seek the help of Asad al-Din (Shirkuh). Dirgham seeks the help of the Franks, and Melisend asks to see Amaury before her death.
Raynald asks Sophia to arrange prison escape equipment. Asad al-Din (Shirkuh) and Saladin enter Egypt. Shawar kills Dirgham.
Shawar seeks to cooperate with Amaury, and Nur al-Din invades Antioch to capture Raymond and Bohemond and save Saladin's forces in Egypt from siege. The Franks agree to get out of Egypt after Saladin agrees to leave it.
Constance reveals the invalidity of Amaury's marriage to Aglas. Nur al-Din releases Bohemond after paying his ransom. Asad al-Din (Shirkuh) prepares his campaign for Egypt, and Amaury is surprised by the fall of Baniyas into Nur al-Din's hands.
Ward Shan seeks protection from Saladin after she is certain of the Franks' intention to enter Egypt. Meanwhile, Asad al-Din (Shirkuh) sends a message agreeing to remain in his position and assist him until the Franks depart, and Shawar intends to betray Saladin.
Shawar kills Saladin's messenger. The Caliph and the vizier sign a peace treaty with the Franks, and Saladin fortifies himself in Alexandria in preparation for the invasion of Egypt.
Amaury agrees to end the siege on the condition that Saladin leaves Egypt, but the negotiations fail. The people of Alexandria rejoice at the arrival of Shirkuh's army (Asad Al-din).
Amaury agrees to end the fighting and leave Egypt, and Zahraa Misr decides to marry Shawar in preparation for killing him. Ward Shan hides her love for Saladin.
