Hajj Darwish, the son of Fatma Ta'laba, tries to solve a problem that concerns the village's crops. Tension rises between Darwish's wife Mariam, and Fatma Ta'laba and her daughters.
Basima reconciles with Mariam. Darwish negotiates the purchase of Sayed Bastawisy's land. To help Darwish, Fatma borrows 200 pounds from Al-Qaffas with plans for the money to be paid off by the cotton crop.
Mariam's pregnancy takes a toll on her. The family prepares for Abdel Aziz's wedding. When it's suggested that Abdel Aziz and his wife live in the latter's family house, Fatma Ta'laba grows so wroth that she wants to stop the marriage, a notion that Darwish vehemently objects to.
Fatma is angry that Mariam wants to have a separate house. As Abdel Aziz's marriage looms closer, the family rejoices when the trousseau is delivered to the house.
Eissa expresses his wish to wed Sakina and consults Mariam about how to talk to his mother about it. Darwish considers a way to have all the hamlets join the Cooperative and plans to buy a new machine that will serve all the farmers.
The villagers think about having elections again. As the family tries to wed Eissa to Hanem, Eissa's opposition leads Mariam to try to convince Darwish to wed Eissa to Sakina.
Despite efforts from Darwish and Fatma Ta'laba, Eissa stands firm in his decision to wed Sakina. Mariam gives birth.
When Al-Hashash is accidentally shot in the shoulder, things grow tense in the village and the backlash leads to some robberies in Al-Arab hamlet. The mayor is called to investigate the incident.
Four days after Fatma's sons were arrested, Abdel Aziz is released, but Eissa remains detained after an elderly woman testifies against him. Darwish tries to figure out a way to get Eissa released.
The family is burdened by the concern that Eissa will be tried and that they will have a convict in the family. Basima sees Mariam as the latter leaves the house at night to meet up with Sakina. Sakina has another suitor.
Sheikh Ezzat advises Darwish and Fatma to reconsider wedding Eissa to Hanem. Fatma decides to support Al-Enda in the election in exchange for having the land registered in her sons' names. Eissa is saddened that Sakina wed another.
Fatma decides to wed Hanem to Sadek instead of Eissa. Abdel Baky decides to take his brother Eissa to an Islamic Saint commemorating ceremony. Darwish and Fatma think about wedding Eissa to Ibrahim Hassabou's daughter, Badr.
Darwish and Fatma return from their trip. The family celebrates Eissa and Badr's wedding. Fed up by her husband's mistreatment, Sakina's parents try to get him to divorce her.
With the sole exception of Badr, Fatma's daughters-in-law all fall pregnant. A married man proposes to Basima. Fatma asks Eissa to take his wife to the doctor to figure out why she hasn't gotten pregnant.
Some of the villagers sell their land to Fatma Ta'laba after they encounter financial difficulties. The rich suitor agrees with Fatma to wed Basima. Badr is saddened that she still hasn't gotten pregnant.
Fatma Ta'laba decides to wed her son, Sheikh Tolba, to Samiha. The villagers are taken by the beauty of the newcomer, Aziza.
Darwish informs Fatma that Eissa didn't go to the doctor as they asked. The family eagerly awaits the wedding of Basima and Rahim.
During a business trip, Sadek asks around about the contractor Karim. Abdel Baky tries to get Aziza to fall for him. Badr's father is fed up with her childbearing problems and decides to resolve the matter.
Darwish leaves the house after he grows fed up with Eissa's problems. Eissa is called to court where he gets acquitted due to lack of evidence. Eissa tells Darwish that he wants to wed Sakina.
Abdel Baky enlists Mariam's help to talk Darwish into letting him marry Aziza. With the family concerned about her different customs, Abdel Baky thinks about giving her a gift in secret. Taher proposes to Bahana.
As Basima gets married and leaves for her husband's house, Fatma falls ill, scaring the family as she becomes bedridden. The sheriff asks Darwish to run for mayor. Sheikh Tolba is drafted into the army.
Tolba joins the army. Mariam questions Darwish about his rejection of the mayorship. Aziza agrees to wed Abdel Baky.
As the death toll rises over the course of one week, the villagers are horrified to learn of a Cholera outbreak. The mayor is ordered to report any new infections to quarantine the patients. Fatma's family takes all necessary precautions to combat the epidemic.
The family survives the outbreak. Aziza decides to teach the family's women to read and write. Abdel Aziz decides to divorce Zeinab. Darwish talks to Fatma about the necessity of marrying Taher off, since he is the only bachelor in the family.
The family prepares for Taher and Bahana's wedding. Fatma objects to Abdel Baky's attitude with his wife Aziza and how she got him to change how he dresses. As Fatma falls ill, she tells Darwish to take care of his siblings. But tragedy strikes when Darwish dies, followed by Fatma one week later.
