As Widad marries a man who is married to a woman from Italy, he leaves Widad while she is pregnant, so she gives birth to a child named Shams, and leaves him with Qamar to go to work.

Widad leaves the hotel where she works to check on her son after the tents collapsed due to the heavy rain. She goes to the cobbler, Jaber, who knows Italy, to ask him how she can find her husband there.

As Shams grows up, Widad takes him with her while she works in the hotel. Fares threatens to demolish the café if Qamar does not pay him money. Najma helps Ajob by sending him a lawyer after he was arrested for drugs.

Saad works with horses for Murad Bey, and asks him to buy race horses to expand his work in the field of horses. The people of the neighborhood call for the fall of colonialism, while a composer is impressed by Widad’s voice.

The composer Khalil gets to know Widad's family. Fares attacks Qamar and asks her for protection money, but she refuses. Saad wrestles with his brother Fares, and Saad wins.

Murad loves Saad for serving him faithfully, much to Murad's son jealousy. Murad trains Saad in martial arts, causing Murad's daughter, Sonia, to be scared for Saad. Widad agrees to send Shams to Najma to learn and attend school.

As Khalil and Widad sing at a wedding, Khalil gets shot, and Widad brings the doctor to treat him. Najma sends Shams to school with teacher Eid. Abu Salem is arrested, while Saad enters a wrestling match.

Saad wins the wrestling match and the people of the neighborhood celebrate his victory. Widad misses Shams and remembers her husband leaving her while she was pregnant. Abu Salem is released.

Fares kills Murad by shooting him, but the investigation does not lead to the perpetrator. Khalil is convinced that Widad will become a great singer. Saad quarrels with Karim and beats him.

As the papers call Widad by the name of Rita, Shams beats Eid, who ridiculed his mother's new name. Two strangers kill Abu Salem, whom Najma finds dead.

Najma searches for Karim to tell him of the death of his father, Abu Salem. Sonia complains to Qamar about Saad for not forgetting the class difference between them. Foreign guests go to Najma and begin searching and excavating at night, and Shams escapes.

The people of Al Sarar search for Shams but do not find him. Shams takes a car heading to the Levant. Hani, along with foreigners, finds artifacts underground. Saad tells Sonia about his stepmother beating him when he was young. Widad learns that her son is missing.

Widad goes to Najma in search of Shams, whom Ajob finds in the Levant with Coco, but he refuses to return with him. Saad marries Sonia, then two men beat him and he is taken to the hospital.

As Widad goes to the Levant, she finds Shams and lives with him and Najma in the town of Al Sarar. Saad refuses to have Hani hide in his house, while Sonia refuses to leave Saad.

Shams asks Ajob to travel to see his friend Coco. Widad tells her mother-in-law that Ibrahim is not coming back and that he left Shams with her. Hani flees to Italy for fear of the police, while Zumrud gives birth.

A woman comes to threaten Qamar to leave the café so that the neighborhood will be evacuated, but Qamar refuses. Muhannad reads about the discovery of the body of an unknown drowned person on the seashore, so he goes to Qamar's café and says that Hani has died.

A stage performance begins at Qamar's café, and Fares plots with Farah to burn down the café. Widad works with Farah, and wants to make a lot of money and become a famous singer.

Karim, Muhannad, and Sonia make repairs at Qamar's café to set up a theater there. Sonia goes to Saad and hires a lawyer to get him out of prison. Qamar sees the diamond that Zumrud hid.

Saad feigns illness in order to escape from prison. Ibrahim tells his mother, Najma, that he will return with a lot of money to establish a cinema. Widad works as a singer in Farah’s club.

Fares takes advantage of Saad's absence and assaults Sonia. Saad gets out and hides with Muhannad. Fares distributes food to the residents of the neighborhood, and wants to seize Murad's villa.

Khalil refuses that Widad take Shams to nightclubs. Sonia faints and is taken to the hospital. As Fares receives the British Bevan in the neighborhood, he buys most of the neighborhood's houses.

Saad injures Fares' eye, and Farah visits Fares in the hospital. As a quarrel breaks out between the people of Al Sarar, Najma is hit by a stone. Zumrud leaves Qamar's café and goes to Abed's hotel. Muhannad learns that Hani was involved with Farah and the foreign woman.

As Zumrud agrees to marry Ajob, a client accuses her of stealing his wallet. Saad kills the foreign woman in self-defense, after which passports and antiquities are found in her apartment.

Farah asks Fares to kill Saad because he has become a danger to them. Fares appears in disguise at Zumrud and Ajob's wedding and accidentally shoots Sonia.

Karim suggests that Saad turn himself in to the police, but he disagrees. Fares seizes Jaber the cobbler’s house. The dancer, Ghanoush, makes Khaled, Murad's son, sign papers and lose the villa.

As Muhannad takes Ghanoush to the detective, she says that Fares killed Murad and Hani, and that he tried to kill Khalil. Karim falls ill with tuberculosis and prefers to die alone.

Khalil leaves the hotel, taking Shams and Coco with him. Detective Kamal asks Muhannad to persuade Saad to turn himself in. Ghanoush gives Kamal important papers incriminating Fares, while Sonia asks Saad for a divorce.

Saad is arrested, while Kamal promises Qamar that he will not leave Saad. Najma wants Widad to return to the town of Al Sarar and wait for Ibrahim to return. As Fares seizes Murad's villa, he gets Khaled and his mother to leave.

Farah proposes marriage to Widad, but she refuses, while he buys her a house. As Fares gives Qamar a week to leave the café, he tries to assault her, but the dog Raad attacks him and Fares dies. Muhannad surrenders himself to the army.

As Syria enters the war, Egypt shoots down Israeli planes, and the demolition of the neighborhood’s homes and emigration begin, but Qamar remains with Khalil, Shams, and Coco. Sonia witnesses Karim’s death, while Widad goes with Khalil.
