Aziza hesitates to accompany her son Abdel Hamid to Alexandria to ask for Zeinab's hand in marriage. Amina agrees to return to her husband, Mustafa, despite her brother Abdel Halim’s categorical objection. Abdel Hamid refuses his cousin Ibrahim's request to marry his sister Roqaia.
Abdel Hamid holds his and Zeinab's wedding. As the wheat stock is set ablaze, Abdel Halim accuses Ibrahim of burning the crop, while his brother, Abdel Hamid, refuses to accuse Ibrahim officially. Aziza quarrels with Zeinab and refuses to change any piece of the furniture of the house.
Abdel Hamid makes sure that Farraj burned his storehouse at Ibrahim's instigation. As Abdel Hamid steals Ibrahim's calves, the latter goes crazy. Abdel Halim agrees to Bilal's marriage to his sister, Roqaia.
Ibrahim goes crazy after he learns that Roqaia will marry Bilal, whereupon Ibrahim incites one of his men to kill Bilal on the night of his wedding to Roqaia. After Bilal is killed, Abdel Hamid and Abdel Halim accuse Ibrahim of murder, but he is acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
Ibrahim seizes Abdel Hamid's land in his absence. Abdel Hamid freaks out after learning what happened to his land and decides to take revenge on Ibrahim but finds that he traveled to Cairo. Abdel Hamid asks Fahmy Pasha to remove the mayor from his position and return his land to him.
As Ibrahim learns that Abdel Hamid is deeply in debt, he incites his men to burn the rest of the crop of his land. While trying to save his crop, Abdel Hamid gets injured and is hospitalized in critical condition.
Zeinab manages to raise money to pay off the mortgage on her husband Abdel Hamid's land. The doctor tells Zeinab that Abdel Hamid will be wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life.
Zeinab stops Farraj's attempt to divert the course of the water to Ibrahim's land and brandishes a rifle in his face. Ibrahim returns to the village. As Abdel Halim finds out about what happened to his brother, Abdel Hamid, he decides to make Ibrahim pay.
Abdel Hamid fails to ride his horse and go to his land, after which he tells Zeinab that he will travel to undergo surgery in order to return to the way he was.
Zeinab stands up to the mayor after learning that he has devised a plan with Ibrahim to burn the land's crop. Mansour returns from abroad and tells Abdel Hamid that there is hope for his condition to be cured.
Mansour reassures his cousin, Abdel Hamid, about the details of the surgery and tells him that it is time for him to travel. Mustafa returns to the village and asks Aziza for his wife's share in the agricultural land.
Ibrahim asks Zeinab for the land of the northern basin in exchange for talking to Mustafa. Also, he orders him that he leaves the house and that his wife, Amina, not be harassed again. As Abdel Hamid returns from traveling, Mansour tells Zeinab that the surgery was not successful.
Abdel Hamid decides to resume his university education. Abdel Halim joins public resistance against the British, and as he is martyred, the El Tayeb family grieves deeply over him.
Zeinab stops Amina's attempt to defy the authority of the household and warns her not to go out again without her knowledge. Cholera breaks out in the country, upon which Zeinab and Dr. Mansour try to help the people and children of the village.
Ibrahim makes Abdel Hamid suspicious of Zeinab and Mansour. When Abdel Hamid hears Amina accusing Zeinab, he suppresses his anger then dies. As Sharif asks for Roqaia's hand in marriage, Zeinab agrees, whereas she rejects Ibrahim's proposal to marry her.
