Abdel Warith bribes Mahfouz to use an investigative report to acquit him in the matter of the ferry's sinking. As Mahfouz gets established in his newspaper, he hides the fact that he is a journalist from Enayat and his mother.
Amal decides to break up with Isma'il. Sa'ad reveals to Amal his plans to conduct a series of assassinations to get the Marxists to assume control of the government.
In an attempt to get a scoop, Mahfouz starts working as a servant in the prime minister's house. When he gets hold of sensitive documents that condemn a minister, Abdel Azim gives them to Shadid Pasha to use to get rid of the minister.
Fearing for his reputation, Mahfouz forces his sister Enayat to quit her job in the minister's house. As Shadid asks to meet Mahfouz, he promises to stand by him and transform his life.
When Mahfouz publishes fakes interviews with Arab kings, Abdel Azim fires him. Shadid intervenes to shield Mahfouz against any retaliation attempt. Mahfouz receives a letter from Enayat, informing him that his mother has passed away.
Mahfouz is chosen to travel to Palestine to cover the situation there. Sawsan returns to Egypt after her divorce. Mahfouz joins Sa'ad's organization to get close to Amal.
Mahfouz weds Sawsan. Shadid promises Mahfouz to have him replace Abdel Aziz. Sadik and Amal discover Mahfouz's relationship with Sawsan, who turns out to be working with MI6. Mahfouz denies their accusations.

Sa'ad gets arrested for trying to assassinate the prime minister. Mahfouz sends a letter to a minister to tattle on the secret organization that Sadik, Amal, and Sa'ad work for, leading to their arrest.
The members of the secret organization members are sent to prison, including Amal. Mahfouz refuses to meet Enayat and her fiancé. Events take a turn when a major fire breaks out in Cairo.

Mahfouz imposes his authority and launches a vicious attack on the ousted king. As he proposes to Amal, Mahfouz gets arrested on charges of conspiracy with the royal regime. Amal discovers that Mahfouz is the one who turned her in and got her imprisoned.
