Sheikh al-Sadat, al-Quesni, al-Sharqawi, and Umar Makram complain to the Country Sheikh that the Mamluk army attacked the people and warn him of the consequences of that. Al-Halabi tells al-Quesni that the governor ordered 50 riyals for those who own a shop that has been vandalized.
Rustem drives a wedge between Ibrahim Bey and Murad, who reproaches Ibrahim for bringing his soldiers to trial. He makes his men steal the wheat ship belonging to Ibrahim Bey. Al-Halabi and Sabah seem to have feelings for each other.
Rustem confronts Murad with stealing the wheat of the Country Sheikh, and blackmails him to take half of it, then advises Ibrahim Bey to give him a reward for hiding the news of the theft. Mahmoud is almost imprisoned after assaulting the Country Sheikh’s men, but Ali intervenes.
Zahran and Souilem ask Muhammad al-Rashidi for the money he owes. Salima tells Zainab that Zubaidah loves Mahmoud. The French Consul tells the French merchants’ delegates that he’ll convince the Foreign Minister of France's occupation of Egypt. Al-Halabi says that Sheikh Khamis was killed by tax collectors.
The Country Sheikh arrests al-Quesni for inciting people against the Mamluks. Umar Makram suggests making people close mosques and shops, whereupon people and sheikhs gather in front of the Country Sheikh’s palace, so he releases al-Quesni, which angers Murad.
Murad decides to collect the taxes instead of the Country Sheikh, so he’d control the country. Napoleon reproaches Joséphine for dancing with whoever asks while he was listening to the proposal of the Foreign Minister and the Consul to invade Egypt. Jackson asks Laura to make sure that Mahmoud requites her love.
Jackson decides to share the profit with Mahmoud, who goes with his mother to ask Zainab for Zubaidah’s hand, while Zahran asks al-Rashidi for her hand for his son Souilem, so he’s forced to agree. Muhammad Koriem is confused as Murad's messenger orders him to pay him the taxes and not the Country Sheikh.
Al-Sadat suggests that the sheikhs convince the Country Sheikh to be reconciled with Murad, so the Country Sheikh asks Khatun to mediate with Makram for reconciliation, to which he agrees. Rustem tells the governor that Murad and the Country Sheikh don’t like him or the Sultan. Al-Halabi considers killing Murad.
As al-Halabi's fails to assassinate Murad, he hides at al-Quesni’s, where he hears Radwan telling Sabah that he loves her, whereupon Murad's soldiers come to search the house, despite the fact that al-Qenawi and al-Eskafi did not confess, but Sabah manages to hide him.
Laura is sad to learn that Mahmoud wants to betroth Zubaidah, while he learns from al-Rashidi that Zubaidah is engaged to Souilem. Al-Halabi wears a disguise and goes to a monastery on his way to escape from Egypt. Mahmoud wants to fight a duel with Souilem where the winner marries Zubaidah.
The merchants collect money to pay the fine imposed by Murad on al-Azhar district. Khatun gives Umar Makram 30,000 to pay the rest of the fine, and as she was concealing her face, Rustem tells Murad that the sheikhs are collecting money for jihad, and that he has to ask Umar who the masked person is.
As Murad arrests Umar Makram at his home, al-Azhar sheikhs go there, declare a revolution and demand justice, mercy and Murad's apology; the Country Sheikh and the governor try to convince Murad to comply. Zubaidah continues her refusal to eat. Laura tells Mahmoud that he will meet Zubaidah at hers.
Al-Rashidi catches Zubaidah with Mahmoud at Laura’s and beats her. As Jackson and Mahmoud's shop is set on fire, Jackson decides to leave Rashid for Cairo, and Mahmoud decides to go with him. Al-Quesni refuses to wed Sabah to Rustem. Zubaidah refuses to marry Souilem.
Garem and al-Khudari tell Souilem and his father that the bride is sick and didn't authorize her father to be her proxy. Al-Quesni refuses to listen to al-Mahdi to wed Sabah to Rustem; he sends Antar after Sabah while she’s meeting Radwan. Napoleon wants Venture to join him in the invasion of Egypt.
Suleiman arrives in Jaffa and finds his mother has passed away; he tells al-Abbas and his family that he came to escape. Mahmoud learns from Radwan that Zubaidah refused to marry Souilem, and because of Antar’s spying on their dates, Radwan tells Sabah that he will ask her father for her hand.
Napoleon and his army leaders prepare to go to war. The Country Sheikh and Murad reject Rustem's request to appoint 500 spies, so he drives a wedge between them and the governor, whom he advises to get rid of them, then he asks Antar to give money to the bandits and arm them for him.
Rustem's men kidnap Radwan and threaten him to stay away from Sabah and al-Quesni. Rustem tells the governor his plan that will oust the Country Sheikh and Murad, who devises a plan to become the Sultan of Egypt and the Levant. Jackson decides to change his and Laura’s identities, with the French coming to Egypt.
Koriem tells Murad about the arrival of English warships warning of the coming of the French fleet to invade Egypt. Zahran orders that al-Rashidi's house and shop be confiscated, but Garem tells Zahran that he will pay al-Rashidi's debt. Napoleon decides to land his army in El Alamein.
Egyptians defend Alexandria against Napoleon’s army. Koriem is forced, and those with him, to leave the Citadel of Qaitbay and accept the negotiations. Napoleon appoints him governor of Alexandria. He makes his soldiers distribute leaflets saying that he came to rid the Egyptians of the Mamluks.
Souilem burns David's shop, then attacks Othman Agha, who broke his promise to him. Mahmoud decides to return to Rashid. Murad, the Country Sheikh and the governor exchange accusations before the Sheikh of al-Azhar and the sheikhs. Murad and Ibrahim decide to fight the French from different places.
Tobar tells Suleiman that he came to get arms to fight the French who’d invaded Egypt, so he begins collecting arms for him. Khatun refuses to cooperate with the French Consul, who meets her disguised as a woman. Rustem gives Dupont information about the readiness of Makram and his soldiers.
Mahmoud returns to Rashid. Menou orders that Souilem and his father be imprisoned and their property be confiscated. Suleiman and his men storm the Mamluk camp and steal the weapons in it. Koriem asks Saad to resist the French with his men and the people of the city.
After the French face resistance, Kléber warns Koriem of betraying him. As David makes Souilem lose an eye, his father attacks him, but the guard kills him. Mahmoud frees him and those with him from prison and steals arms from the soldiers, who don’t find the arms stolen from the camp in al-Abbas's house.
Kléber imposes on the people of Rashid a 10,000 franc fine, if they don’t reveal who stormed the prison. Mahmoud threatens David incognito and takes 15,000 francs from him. When Suleiman learns that Maryam loves him, he tells her that he’s hers. The French defeat Murad. The merchants unite to defend Cairo.
As Rustem learns that Murad will use the French merchants and their families as human shields, he takes money from Dupont to free them. Al-Abbas agrees to Suleiman's request to marry Maryam. Rustem promises to smuggle the governor in return for money if the French enter Cairo.
Mahmoud gives 5,000 francs to Souilem and tells him how he got them. Koriem asks the merchants not to sell donkeys and camels in the markets in order to beleaguer the French, so Kléber orders that a 100,000 franc fine be collected by Koriem from the people. Khatun refuses to escape with Murad.
As Murad and his men flee to Beni Suef, Napoleon seizes his palace, but leaves it after he finds Khatun there. Rustem advises Ibrahim to flee, then he kidnaps Sabah, which is what makes al-Quesni not escape with some of the sheikhs who fled, especially since he doesn’t know the kidnapper.
Kléber imprisons Koriem for his betrayal. Radwan awakes after being stabbed to find himself at Laura and her father’s. The doctor tells al-Rashidi that Zubaidah has lost the will to live, so her mother arranges a date for her with Mahmoud, but an armed al-Rashidi threatens him to stay away from her.
Sabah doesn’t give in to Rustem. As Napoleon summons Pauline, her husband storms the place, so Napoleon orders his imprisonment. For fear of a revolution, Kléber transfers Koriem from Qaitbay, and he’s angered by the deaths and injuries at the hands of Koriem's men. Rustem learns of Murad's visit to Khatun.
As Koriem's men make a deal with the English, their fleet attacks the French fleet and causes them great losses. Sabah kills Rustem's servant by mistake, as Rustem arranged for it to happen. Napoleon orders that Koriem be transferred to Cairo to be tried.
As Ahmad al-Jazzar takes over the rule of Jaffa, he almost kills a number of men, but Suleiman intervenes and admits that he’s the one who’s fighting the Turks, so he makes him fight a strong man, whom Suleiman defeats, so al-Jazzar pardons him and the men. Officer Lucian asks to defend Koriem in his trial.
Lucian asks to be exempted from military service after Koriem is sentenced to death. Zubaidah gives her gold to Mahmoud to pay Koriem's ransom and save him, so he takes it along with what Koriem's men collected and goes to Dupuy, who carries out the execution and refuses to take the ransom.
