Gaber Abdel Wahid comes to Cairo as a student and enrolls in the Faculty of Arts. He lives on the rooftop of a house in Al Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood and falls in love with his neighbor, Kawthar, the daughter of a chief clerk who works for a pasha. Although the pasha's son loves Kawthar, she prefers Gaber, a simple, poor man who is arrested for attempting to assassinate the British ambassador.
