Sabri and Saadoun quarrel on account of the former's greed and insults to the people of the alley. Fatima wishes to leave the alley and resents her father's work in selling basbousa (an Egyptian dessert). Master Shamil helps Sabri get some job.

Saadoun writes stories and novels in the hope of getting them adapted one day. Monji asks for Maryam’s hand to his son in marriage. Fatima tries to persuade her father to quit selling basbousa. Sabri starts a new job and resides in the alley.

Saadoun wants to marry his neighbor, the seamstress, Maryam, but lack of money and providing for his family prevent him from doing so. The agricultural engineer meets Nesma, who discovers Fatima's dissatisfaction with her father's work in selling basbousa in the alley.

Master Shamil advises Sabri to be humble and not to be condescending to the people. Mustafa asks his brother Saadoun to help him travel abroad to complete his studies and research. Dr. Atef's mother falls seriously ill. Saadoun submits his work to a production company.

Fatima tries to agree with Master Farghali not to drop the case he filed to expel them from the house. Maryam's mother quarrels with her daughter because she wants to sell the shop. Master Shoman tries to agree with someone to run the shop. Hamouda persuades Saadoun to propose to Maryam.

Saadoun is surprised to learn that Maryam’s cousin proposed to her. Umm Houda asks Saadoun to propose to her quickly. A small party is held to celebrate Saadoun and Maryam’s initial union, but her uncle quarrels with them and rejects that marriage.

As Sabri causes someone’s death due to his cruelty, he gets fired. Umm Houda forces her ex-husband Naguib, for whom Sabri works, to give their son what he's due. Saadoun's sister tries to help him with marriage costs, but her mother objects. Fatima manages to buy a new place behind her father's back.

Fatima marries Yusri and asks her father not to tell anyone in the alley. Saadoun's sister gets married as well, while he holds a low-key ceremony, where he and Maryam sign their marriage contract, whereupon he helps his brother Mustafa raise money to travel on a scholarship.

People of the alley are upset to learn of the marriage of Maryam, whose father falls ill and is taken to the hospital. Maryam complains about Yusri's treating her poorly after their marriage. News reaches Saadoun and his mother about Mustafa's marriage to a foreigner while abroad.

Mustafa calls and informs Master Shamil of his arrival in Egypt with his wife. Fatima continues to suffer with Yusri, who can’t get over the social gap between them.

As Mustafa arrives with his wife in Egypt, his family is surprised to learn that she’s not a minister as he said, but rather called Wazeera (a minister). Fatima and Dr. Yusri put her father in a nursing home, where he meets fellow resident Shafiq.

Mona makes sure her father wants to stay in the home. As Mustafa has to turn himself in to the army to serve his sentence for evading military service, Wazeera resides in a rooftop room, awaiting his release. Sabri tells Umm Houda that El Shal signed over all his property to his son Houda to evade taxes.

Shafiq reveals that it was his son who forced him to stay in the nursing home. Umm Houda meets her ex-husband El Shal and warns him not to approach Houda. Fatima begins to turn against Yusri and stops tending to his children.

Wazeera proposes that Saadoun make some changes to the rooftop room and live there after his wedding. Yusri offers to have Master Gabriel stay with him in the villa. People of the alley agree to restore Houda's right to his father's money, while Houda falls for Sabra.

As Houda tells his mother that he wants to marry Sabra, he finds out what El Shal has done to him and insists on taking revenge on him. Yusri tells Fatima that his family knows the truth about her father, the basbousa seller, and asks her to leave him go back to the alley.

Fatima and Yusri get separated then divorced, while her father returns to the alley and resumes selling basbousa. As El Shawl dies, Houda inherits his fortune.

Fatima's father finds out about her divorce. Houda and his mother leave the alley after receiving his inheritance, whereupon he opens a car dealership, and dumps Sabra after proposing to her. Atef gets married.

Saadoun prepares for his and Maryam’s wedding. Sherifa tells her mother that she is pregnant. Houda is reprimanded for breaking up with Sabra by Saadoun, who opens a barbershop.

Houda is surprised to learn of Sabri's wish to marry Ragaa, after the former decided to propose to her. The busboy at the cafe asks Umm Imam to marry Sabra. Saadoun and Houda start preparing to open the shop.

Saadoun and Maryam's wedding take place, whereupon he returns to work at his father's shop.
