In Aleppo, the accountant Sa'eid passes away, leaving everyone to prepare for the funeral. President Gamal Abdel Nasser announces the nationalization of the Suez Canal. Abu Adel proposes to Sa'eid's widow, Sou'ad.
Kamal tries to sell the silk in his shop. Abu Na'eim (Na'eim's father) passes away at the coffee shop. Mohsen's father tries to force him to marry Zakia. Mourad decides to return from Italy to open a textile factory.
Mourad considers selling his land to his uncle for a million pounds. Abu Na'eim's children clash with Kamal after one of them refuses to sell him silk. Protestors ask for unity between Egypt and Syria. Zakia and Mohsen get married.
Abu Mahmoud (Mahmoud's father) proposes to Sou'ad, which angers Abu Adel as they compete to win her favor. Umm Mahmoud (Mahmoud's mother) grows angry when she learns that her husband wants to marry Sou'ad. Mourad looks for a partner for his project. Sou'ad refuses to wed after Sa'eid's death.
As everyone prepares for Mohsen and Zakia's wedding, Mohsen grows upset when he sees how ugly Zakia is since he didn't see her prior to the wedding. Mourad finds a partner but the latter demands unfair terms.
Mourad decides to work with Abu Na'eim's sons. As Mohsen goes to visit Fadda after he runs away from home, he ends up proposing to her, and they get married.
As Kamal proposes to Sou'ad, she remains persistent in her refusal to remarry. Mohsen's family is surprised by his disappearance. Fadda reveals that she wants to continue singing even after she got married.
As Ahmed stands up to his parents as they try to marry Sou'ad off against her will, the Tripartite Aggression occurs, and Ahmed volunteers to fight. Fadda goes against Mohsen's wishes and returns to singing.
As the war causes a severe recession in the textile market, Mourad decides to sell the polyester thread to Kamal. Sou'ad is forced to agree to marry Kamal.
Kamal's wife, Moti'aa, visits Sou'ad and her mother to express her anger after she learns that Kamal will marry Sou'ad. As Fadda gets pregnant, Mohsen falls ill. Ahmed comes back from the war, only to get angry at Sou'ad when he learns about her decision. Kamal is arrested on collusion charges.
Fadda is forced to return to singing to save Mohsen, but the decision makes him angry. As Zakia thinks of a way to bring Mohsen back, she starts looking for him with Ahmed's help, only for them to find him severely ill.
Mohsen recovers from tuberculosis. Zakia goes back to her parents' house. Kamal is questioned about the events of the Aleppo banquet that the merchants attended. Sou'ad falls for Mourad.
When Mohsen tries to win Zakia back, she insists that he must divorce Fadda. The textile merchants try to figure out a solution for Kamal's problem and the textiles they are unable to sell. Abu Adel asks Mourad to help him propose to Sou'ad. Kamal gets released.
As Abu Adel persists in trying to get Sou'ad to marry him, Kamal grows angry when he learns about his proposal. Mohsen begs Zakia to get back together with him. Mourad's lab goes into business.
As Mohsen divorces Fadda to get back together with Zakia, his parents pay Fadda her delayed dowry. Mourad discovers that the girl who likes him is actually Sou'ad. Kamal decides to open a company to compete with Mourad's.
As Kamal and Abu Adel clash in public over Sou'ad, she confesses to her brother that she doesn't want either of them as she has feelings for Mourad. Ahmed hints to Mourad about Sou'ad's feelings for him. Mohsen starts working with his father-in-law, Kamal.
Mourad and Kamal cut off professional ties after the latter builds his factory. One of Mourad's employees decides to become a double agent. Ahmed lands in trouble after quarreling with Mohsen. Zakia struggles with her inability to get pregnant.
Mourad, Na'eim, and Moqim join forces against Kamal. As the blind Sheikh tries to resolve Mourad's issue which prevents him from proposing to Sou'ad, he hints to Abu Adel about the matter, leaving Abu Adel to admonish Mourad.
As Kamal opens his new factory, Mourad decides to close his own factory because of the war. Kamal tries to have Mourad kicked out of the market. As Abu Adel and Mourad reconcile, the latter proposes to Sou'ad.
Mohsen is saddened by Zakia's inability to get pregnant. As Sou'ad and Mourad get engaged, Kamal grows angry and vows revenge on Sou'ad's father. Mohsen tries to get custody of his son, but Fadda refuses. Kamal threatens to burn Mourad's lab down.
Angry with Kamal's constant interference, Ahmed confronts Kamal and threatens him with a gun to stay away from his family. Mourad and Sou'ad celebrate their wedding. Mohsen tries to prevent his sister, Zeina, from meeting Ahmed.
Against her family's wishes, Zeina decides to wed Ahmed in secret. As Mohsen gets incited against Ahmed and plots to harm him, he asks the butcher, Abu Hassan, to beat Ahmed. Kamal's party approves the union between Egypt and Syria.
As Zeina's family realizes that she has run away, Mohsen loses it when he learns that she married Ahmed. Kamal calls them all to try and reach an accord. Egypt unites with Syria under the name of the United Arab Republic.
