In a documentary-style framework, “Shade” encounters a number of mentally-ill patients in the Abbasseya and Khanika hospitals in Cairo. It presents the patients’ personal stories, what happened that led them to becoming patients in these hospitals, the daily surroundings in which they live, and the degree to which the years they’ve spent living between the walls of these hospitals have affected them.
