Samiha's car breaks down on the way home so she takes the bus where she meets Medhat, who lets her have his seat in the bus then takes her to her father Magdy's house.
Magdy asks Medhat to take out a life insurance policy for him and Samiha. Later on, Medhat is upset when he sees Samiha with Ismail several times. Meanwhile, Magdy refuses to let Samiha marry Ismail.
Magdy tells Medhat to go back to law school and that he will take care of his tuition. Meanwhile, Medhat and Samiha grow closer.
Medhat marries Samiha and Magdy falls ill. Later on, Samiha gives birth to a daughter and Magdy-deep in his debts- sells their villa to Ismail. Mujahid dies.
Medhat is forced to move with his wife and daughter to a lower-class neighborhood in Cairo. Ismail visits Samiha several times behind Medhat's back, and his friend sees them and considers telling Medhat.
Ismail and Samiha grow closer when he tells her he has never stopped loving her. Samiha asks Medhat for a divorce in order to marry Ismail.
Medhat tells Samiha he agrees to divorce her if she permanently gives up custody rights of their daughter Layla. Medhat refuses to let her see Layla even though she begs him. However, when Layla falls ill, Medhat forgives Samiha and the family reunites.
