Nick is a shy teenager who gets in over his head, when he creates an alter ego to impress the girl of his dreams,Sheeni.

Nick Twisp is a shy, awkward teenager who lives with his mom Estrelle and her boyfriend Jerry in Oakland, California. When Jerry gets into money trouble with some sailors, he takes Nick and Estrelle to live in a trailer park in Clearlake. While there, Nick meets Sheeni Saunders, another teenage who shares Nick’s taste in music and has a fondness for French culture. Nick and Sheeni soon get romantically involved, despite Sheeni’s relationship with her boyfriend Trent.
