Sheikh Yusef is a young preacher who has a religious TV show, and because of his strict beliefs, he gets angry when his sister brings him a cake on his birthday, considering that celebrating birthdays is heresy, while his other sister is learning to play the violin without his knowledge.

Preacher Yusef rejects the suitor who proposes to his sister because of his work as a theater actor, despite the approval of his sister, who insists on meeting him first to get to know him.

Preacher Yusef calls for the reestablishment of the Islamic caliphate on his show, while the violinist Nesma appears in a TV show representing the liberals against a sheikh, who represents the Islamists.

Yusef and his brother-in-law, Sheikh Hassan, quarrel after Yusef learns that Hassan wants to have his own show on the same channel on which Yusef hosts his. Nesma's mother asks her not to appear on another show like the one on which she debated a sheikh.

Marwa, Yusef’s sister, complains to her father, Abdo El Olamagi, about Yusef’s objection to her marrying the man she loves. Nesma and her friends organize a protest in Tahrir, chanting for the fall of the Brotherhood leader’s rule, but their opponents attack them again with cudgels and sticks.

As Yusef learns that Hanin is being taught to play the violin by Nesma, he gets angry, breaks the violin, and goes to Nesma to quarrel with her, saying that what she is doing is decadent, so she gets angry and throws him out of the house.

Yusef and Hassan fall out, as the latter intervenes to clear the air between Yusef and Hanin after he broke her violin. But Yusef refuses this intervention and quarrels with him, so Hassan gets angry and moves back to his old house in Al Maghrblin, all the while Yusef watches Nesma play her violin.

Yusef goes to the TV station to shoot an episode of his show, only to find that the daughter of the station owner, who is also the program's producer, has changed the decor to signify modernity and openness, which angers Yusef, but in the end he agrees to the new decor.

Yusef meets with some Islamic leaders, who ask him to dedicate the episodes of his show to discuss the importance of implementing Islamic law. As Nesma plays the violin in her house, Yusef listens to her from the balcony of his room, and starts thinking about her and growing fond of her.

Yusef debates a secularist; meanwhile, he continues to watch Nesma from his window.

Yusef suggests that his sister Khadija send a gift to Dr. Sawsan after helping Mustafa in the ordeal of his illness.

Demonstrations erupt calling for the overthrow of the Brotherhood leader's rule, and after they end, Nesma gets attacked on her way home by unknown assailants, who wreck her car and beat her with cudgels.

Yusef tells his sister, Khadija, that he doesn’t want to go to the station or his office or even meet his followers, then informs her that he’s decided to marry Ayat, his mentor’s relative, so they go to ask for her hand, but she refuses, saying that they have different approaches to preaching.

Yusef attends a concert in which Nesma plays, and after it ends, he rushes out, but Manal, Nesma’s friend, stops him and is surprised he came despite his claim that art is profane. Nesma finds out and is surprised by his behavior, but her friend tells her that he did it because he loves her.

As Nesma's car breaks down, Yusef offers to give her ride and she agrees. He says he likes her playing, so she feels that he’s changed and tells him they can be friends. Yusef informs the station owner that he’s ready to return to the show, in which he’ll discuss women's freedom in Islam in the first episode.

Yusef learns that supporters of the Islamic movement will attack the demonstrators at the Ittihadia Palace, so he calls Nesma and asks to meet her.

As the station owner asks Yusef to know the issues he will discuss in his show, an angry Yusef quarrels with him and refuses to host the new episode of his show. The relationship between Yusef and Nesma is strengthened, whereupon Nesma tells her friend about Yusef.

Yusef and Nesma attend the funeral of the martyrs, which turns into a demonstration condemning the rule of the Brotherhood. Yusef participates in the chants against the killers, after which he confesses his love to Nesma and tells her that her love made him change.

Yusef signs on with another station, and begins hosting the first episodes of his show entitled ‘Islam and the Revolution’. As Yusef and Nesma frequently meet, he proposes to her, but she tells him that people won’t approve of the marriage of a preacher and an artist.

When Nesma and Yusef meet, he asks to meet her mother, who isn’t inclined to agree to their marriage since his upbringing is different from Nesma’s and they won’t be able to live together, which is what Yusef is told by Khadija, who reminds him that Nesma’s not veiled and that she’s not like them.

Yusef ends the episode in which he declared his love for Nesma, who calls him crying as she was moved by what he’d done. While exiting the gate of the Media Production City, many bearded men attack his car, wrecking it and trying to assault him, but the driver manages to run away and save Yusef.

Yusef attends the opera concert in which Nesma plays, and praises her and Manal’s performances. When Manal's husband learns that his wife partook in the concert and didn’t obey him, he gets angry and divorces her. Hassan indirectly yet harshly criticizes Yusef on his show.

Nesma calls Yusef and tells him what Hassan said on his show, but he doesn't care. The next day, Yusef watches the episode on YouTube, gets very upset, then tells Nesma that he will deal with him.

Khadija informs her brother, Yusef, that she wants to be divorced from Hassan, so Yusef asks Suleiman to inform Hassan of Khadija's request. Abdo goes to Yusef and informs him of Marwa's marriage.

Yusef quarrels with his father after learning that Marwa got married with his knowledge and consent, then he goes home and quarrels with Marwa. Nesma tries to calm him down and asks him to forgive his sister because she didn’t do anything wrong.

Yusef is summoned by the prosecution on charges of fraud, on the grounds that he called for donations to a charity hospital, after which the people in charge of this project seized the donations and fled.

As Yusef tells Suleiman that Khadija won’t agree to marry him, the latter tells him that she’s agreed to the marriage and they’re waiting for the waiting period to end. Yusef gets angry, goes home in a hurry, and quarrels with Khadija for associating with Suleiman before her divorce.

Yusef springs a surprise on his show, where he proves with documents that Sheikh Ali was an informant for the State Security agency, as he was planted among Islamic groups to spy on them.

News of Yusef's disappearance spreads in newspapers and on TV, and when Yusef's father, Abdo, finds out, he goes home to stand by his children, as does Taymour, Marwa's husband. Nesma files a report to the Public Prosecutor and accuses Sheikh Ali of kidnapping Yusef.

Sheikh Ali releases Yusef, who proposes to Nesma. Hassan returns, filled with remorse, after losing Khadija. Sheikh Ali fails to assassinate Yusef.
