Salesman Arthur Parker is attempting to sell sheet music in Chicago during the Great Depression, but he is having trouble persuading reluctant music store owners to purchase what he sells. He meets Eileen, a schoolteacher, at a music store and falls in love with her, despite the fact that he is already married to the somewhat boring Joan.
