Yugoslavia is embroiled in several violent internal conflicts throughout the 1990s, including brutal civil wars and other conflicts. Milan is a Muslim student from Serbia who, like many others, is forced to leave the horrors of war and travel west to a town in Milan where he will wait for his parents, surviving the grueling and terrifying journey in the midst of this horrific hell.
