Khairiya discovers that behind the curtain is a thief, so he seeks her sympathy and tells her the story of his work in a bookstore and its owner firing him, and his tendency to steal to open his own business. She sympathizes with him until her mother’s husband, Mahmoud, comes and shoots him.
