Khairiya discovers that behind the curtain is a thief, so he seeks to gain her sympathy and tells her the story of his work in a bookstore, its owner firing him, and his turning to stealing to open his own business. She sympathizes with him until her step-father, Mahmoud, comes and shoots at him.
