Adham's mother tries to reconcile him and his brother Ayman, to no avail, because Ayman married Adham's former girlfriend after her family rejected him. Firas and his group try to take action against the French. Noura's father decides to marry her off to a colonel.
Noura runs away from home and goes to Firas, but he orders her to return. Adham's mother confronts her son with the fact that he gave the land to the French. Ayman's wife tries to intervene to reconcile the two brothers.
Noura's father prepares to receive the colonel, and refuses to wed her to Firas, who tries everything to prevent the marriage of the colonel and Noura, while Adham decides to visit his mother after the clash between them.
As Noura's father is shot dead, the colonel demands that his killer be found, while Noura's mother decides to resort to her brother, who kicks her out because he believes that she has shamed her family.
Adham quarrels with Ayman, and Noura asks for protection from the colonel in exchange for returning her family to their home, but he refuses, while Firas manages to escape from the clutches of the French.
Noura, her mother, and her sister are taken in by Abu Jawad. After the French authorities look for Ayman because of his resistance efforts against them, he gets interrogated by their forces.
Adham's mother asks him to take care of his sick nephew after Ayman's arrest. With Abu Jawad's help, Noura works as a maid for a wealthy woman.
The daughter of the woman for whom Noura works asks her to help her secretly meet her lover, and to deliver messages between them, upon which she decides to help her despite her fear of losing her job.
Ayman's wife pleads with Adham to ask the colonel to allow him to see his son. Noura's mother objects to her sister's work.
Abu Jawad offers to marry Noura's mother, but she dreads the idea. Firas's father thinks about how to avenge him after he was martyred. Ayman's son dies.
With Adham as a guarantor, Ayman is allowed to visit his son before the burial, and as he succeeds in escaping from the French forces, it is decided to arrest his wife in his place.
Adham's mother stands with a large crowd in front of the French forces' headquarters to protest the arrest of Ayman's wife. Hamid's wife reveals that she is pregnant.
Adham gets close to Noura's sister, Layal, who came to look after his house, whereupon she ends up sleeping with him, which she regrets.
The colonel replaces his teacher with another woman who's a rival of hers. After a long search, Firas's father finds Noura and her mother, informs her of Firas's murder, and asks her for forgiveness.
Noura receives a reprimand from her mistress for being late for work, after which her mistress's husband gives her leave from work. The colonel decides to enlist Saad to monitor the resistance fighters.
Rima, Saad's wife, expresses her true feelings towards the colonel. Layal tells her mother that she has quit her job with Adham.
Noura's mother gets upset when she learns of Layal's working as a maid for Adham while he was alone. Demonstrations erupt in the village against the French occupation. The brother of Noura's mother comes to check on them after he kicked them out.
After Ayman gets released from prison, Razan asks him for a divorce when she discovers his true intention towards Adham. As Layal disappears in mysterious circumstances, her uncle tells her mother that she died of illness, but in fact she was killed.
Adham tries to implement the will left by his father as he sees fit, but the lawyer tells him about the consequences of this will, and he decides to dispossess Ayman of what's left for him. Noura decides to work for Adham after Layal's murder.
Adham gets angry about Razan's moving out of the house, while Noura decides to get close to Adham to teach him a lesson for what he did to Layal. Hamid decides to take a second wife.
The colonel's mistress, Saad's wife, threaten to reveal the secret of their affair. Ayman divorces his wife, Razan, while Noura pretends to care about Adham to make him fall in love with her.
Adham takes care of Noura in her illness. Hamid's wife gets angry when she learns of his decision to take another wife. Saad's wife is shot while leaving the headquarters of the French forces.
Saad's wife undergoes emergency surgery and becomes in danger of losing her leg. Hamid discovers that his wife is not pregnant and has been lying to him.
Saad's wife collapses when she learns that she's become paralyzed. Hamid proposes to the other woman whom he loves, and kicks his first wife out of the house.
Saad is arrested for trying to kill his wife. Noura tells Adham about her sister without telling him that she means Layal, who was killed because of him. Adham's mother fears that he might reopen the subject of his father's will.
Adham travels outside the village, and when he returns, he proposes to Noura. The colonel is transferred to Syria.
The colonel is sentenced to death for high treason. The relationship between Noura and Adham grows stronger. Hamid finalizes his second marriage.
Adham finds Layal's picture with Noura, who doesn't tell him that she is her sister. As news spreads about Ayman's murder, Adham tries to find out the truth.
As Adham continues to search for his brother's killer and for the body, it turns out that he is alive and that he traveled outside the country after selling all his property.
Noura intends to tell Adham the truth about her late sister, even though she has conflicting feelings of both hate and love towards him. Adham asks Noura to forgive him, but she throws him out of the house.
