Ibrahim Abdel Hady discusses how Brotherhood members have infiltrated the army and questions officer Gamal Abdel Nasser. Nasser tells his fellow Free Officers to lay low for now before he starts planning for a coup d'etat.
Zainab El-Ghazali is thrilled when some of the terrorist cell members are released. The Brotherhood tries running for Parliament but is unable to win any seats. Mostafa El-Nahas becomes the new Prime Minister. Nasser begins looking for supporters for his coup.
As the Brotherhood looks for its new General Guide, Nasser decides not to include them in the coup. When martial law is lifted, they take over their headquarters as the police cracks down on them. Sayyid Qutb returns from the US.
Anwar Sadat joins the Free Officers Movement. Nasser asks for Sayyid Qutb's support. The Brotherhood is divided after Hassan Al-Hudaybi is elected as General Guide but he ultimately decides to resign. As the Cairo Fire occurs, Nasser considers speeding up the coup.
The Brotherhood is willing to support Nasser's coup but on their own terms. Nasser refuses to exclude the communists but Abdel Rahman Al-Sanadi opposes him. The Free Officers implement their take over.
As Al-Hudaybi offers his congratulations on a successful coup, Nasser opposes his regressive demands including mandating hijab and closing cinema houses and theatres. Nasser and Sayyid Qutb agree on the agriculture land reform law. The Brotherhood gets three ministerial seats.
Sayyid Qutb is furious that he won't be the Minister of Education, so the Brotherhood refuses all government seats, except Ahmad Al-Bagouri who becomes the Minister of Awkwaf. When the Free Officers decide to dissolve all political parties, Nasser refuses to dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Brotherhood rejoices following Nasser's decision and demands to have a say in the evacuation of British forces from Egypt. Abdel Rahman Al-Sanadi meets up with Nasser.
The Chancellor for the British Ambassador meets up with the Brotherhood to discuss the withdrawal of British forces from Egypt and the status of the Suez Canal. As Nasser keeps an eye on those meetings, the Brotherhood starts to plan a coup against Nasser after Mohamed Naguib is sidelined.

When the owner of the villa where the Brotherhood is meeting with the Americans is interrogated, they realize that their conflict with Nasser has become known. Mohamed Naguib resigns from the Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) as Sayyid Qutb attacks them in the press.
The detained Brotherhood members ask to be released. Nasser consults with Al-Sanadi who suggests a sly approach. As the conflict between Nasser and Mohamed Naguib becomes public knowledge, the Brotherhood waits to see who wins.
Against Nasser's wishes, Mohamed Naguib decides to dissolve the RCC and restore political parties. The Brotherhood's secret apparatus plots to assassinate Nasser.
The conspirators plan to assassinate Nasser in Alexandria, but the would-be assassin Mahmoud Abdel Latif fails. All the leaders of the Brotherhood are arrested.
Abdel Kader Ouda, now a fugitive, claims that he had nothing to do with the assassination in a letter that Nasser turns in as evidence of the Brotherhood's culpability. Mohamed Naguib is ousted and put under house arrest, as the RCC puts Brotherhood members on trial
The General Guide is transported to Al-Wahat prison camp, and Sayyid Qutb is sentenced to 15 years. Nasser considers nationalizing the Suez Canal as Ali Ashmawi trains new dissenters.
After Nasser announces the nationalization of the Suez Canal, UK, France and Israel launch a tripartite invasion on the Canal cities. Qutb welcomes a new prisoner. The General Guide gets a compassionate release and is visited by Zainab Al-Ghazali.
Two Brotherhood cells unite to assassinate Nasser. Sayyid Qutb sends his articles to Zainab Al-Ghazali with instructions for the Brotherhood.
The General Guide approves Qutb's writings, but they prove divisive among the imprisoned members of the Brotherhood.
As the Brotherhood starts to disapprove of Ali Ashmawi's cell, Qutb's vision is laid out in a book, Milestones, that becomes so popular that it reaches Nasser.
As Nasser cracks down on Qutb's book, a leadership vacuum prompts the Brotherhood to offer the position to Qutb who accepts on one condition: to have the final say in everything.
The General Guide informs the American envoy that they are willing to reconcile with Israel. Ali Ashmawi's cell makes explosives. Shukri Mustafa joins the Brotherhood. Nasser considers releasing Qutb on Abdul Salam Arif's recommendation.
Qutb is released but continues to suffer from coronary heart disease. He commands Ashmawi's cell to postpone their assassination attempt.
As Ashmawi's cell stocks up on weapons, Qutb sends them out to carry out terrorist operations like bombing power stations and stealing weapons from army soldiers. Shams Badran is assigned to investigate this new cell.
Ashmawi's desire for retaliation after the arrest of many Brotherhood members is curbed by Qutb. But one of the prisoners provides information about the cell, leading to the arrest of Qutb's brother and Ashmawi, who in turn confesses everything. Qutb and his sisters are arrested.
The investigation continues as Ashmawi confesses everything and Zainab Al-Ghazali cooperates after initially accusing the cops of torturing her.
As the confessions start pouring in, Hamida Qutb admits to carrying messages between her brother and Zaibanb Al-Ghazali. Zainab condemns the government as that of disbelievers that need to be fought. Ashmawi tells them about their terrorist plans and where they got their weapons.
As the conspirators are referred to a martial court, Nasser orders Qutb's execution along with two others. The rest of the conspirators get 25 years.
