Ahlam is a Tunisian doctor who has been in love with her neighbor Nader for years, though Nader is poor and unemployed. When Nader starts working for a wealthy man, he ingratiates himself to him in order to get rich, an aspiration that leads him to abandon Ahlam to wed his employer's sister.
