Amina works in the house of a family residing in Tunisia in the times of the French colonialism, and she rejects Ismail, a policeman who's deeply in love with her. Afif goes to dine with a friend and he meets and talks with Amina, which incites Ismail's jealousy and rage.
Amina apologizes to Afif and simultaneously Ismail tries to send him away from the capital. Amina goes to Afif's workplace and she accepts his marriage proposal, which infuriates Ismail.
Amina is arrested for not having an ID and Ismail guarantees to give her her papers provided that she returns with him, which Amina accepts. Amina meets Afif in the market and Ismail is clueless as to where she is.
Amina returns to Ismail's house in a lamentable state; a state of fatigue and illness, and Ismail tries to check on her through a relative. Nasser quarrels with his uncle who refuses to wed him to his daughter and also refuses the division of the land. Hopeless, Nasser decides to leave the country.
Fire breaks out in the land and El-Nasser is accused. Amina sneaks into Ismail's house to get her ID and flees, but Ismail gets in the right time to stop her. Azouz comes from the village and he meets with Afif and Hussein.
Afif tries to smuggle Amina from Ismail's house, but Hussein rejects the idea. Meanwhile, Ismail quarrels with Amina when he finds Afif's photograph with her. Ismail's mother loses consciousness and dies.
After she leaves Afif's house, Amina meets Ismail and they go to the village where she meets her brother El-Nasser who asks her to stay with them. The inhabitants of the mountain decide to confront the French colonizer. El-Mawldy wants to marry El-Akry's daughter, but his mother rejects it.
El-Mawldy and El-Nasser decide to fight the French military on the mountain. Afif urges the elder that conspired with the colonizers to urge the men to return home. El-Nasser also returns to his family and he tells his sister he admires Afif for his strength.
Ismail goes to El-Nasser to investigate about Amina. Amina tells Afif she's pregnant and he rejoices at the news. Ismail, meanwhile, is unceasingly trying to find any publications or meetings the group is holding to fight the colonizer.
Afif is imprisoned, but that doesn't prevent him from resisting the colonizer; he resists even from his prison cell. Amina stays at the house of a friend of Afif, and she gives birth to a baby girl. Ismail is still trying to find where Amina is.
Amina goes with her daughter to the restaurant where she used to work, and she meets Ismail and accepts to marry him. Following his release from prison, Afif and his friend go to Algeria.
Afif is getting prepared for a boxing match in France, and he aims this will pave the way for his return to Tunisia, but Saleh informs him this is impossible since he is practically exiled. Ismail betrays his own country and allies with the French colonizer who murders the Sheikh's son.
Afif loses the match, and he is advised by his friends to get married, forget about Tunisia and start afresh. Ismail tells Abd El-Rahman that Afif is alive and he is exiled in Algeria.
Now they are grown-ups, Amal graduates from college and a friend of Mostafa's son falls in love with her, but Ismail strongly objects to this relationship. The French army withdraws from Tunisia and Afif returns home to look for Amina and his daughter. but it seems that they have gone with the wind.
Afif escapes from the hospital and heads to Ismail's house with a gun in his hand to take revenge on him for marrying his wife and sending him into exile. But when he saw his daughter, Afif softened, hugged her, and put the gun and enmity aside.
