Soliman works for a belly dancer and he has a crush on her maid whom he thinks would make a better dancer than Zohra herself; he asks the owner of the nightclub to give her a chance. Meanwhile, a train runs over one of the employees.
Soliman approaches the maid and tries to meet her, which enrages his father. Meanwhile, Soliman's brother resumes working with the French. The widow of the deceased employee stays at the Hajj's house.
Zohra quarrels with Mostafa who is mad that he doesn't have a car. Habiba starts working at Hatab's nightclub as a dancer, and the competition between her and Zohra gets fierce. The widow grows accustomed to her stay at the Hajj's house.
As Soliman returns home drunk, his father quarrels with him and kicks him out. Soliman goes to the dancer's house. Azouz grows reluctant regarding his approach to the Tunisian employees now that he has got closer to Antoine.
The Hajja wants to wed her sons to their cousins, and she asks her husband to see to it. Mostafa meets Soliman and goes to Hatab's nightclub where he sees Habiba and grows impressed by her. Azouz intends to marry the widow who's sad because she loves Soliman.
Azouz's manager believes that Azouz is inciting the employees to go on a strike and protest against the French, but the truth is that the employees started a strike because Nourdin shot him. Abbas is imprisoned.
Soliman hires a lawyer to get Abbas out of prison. Soliman quarrels with Habiba who tore his fez and he also clashes with his father. Azouz's relationship with his wife improves. World War II breaks out, threatening to destabilize life in Tunisia and leave grave impacts.
The Tunisian people get enraged when Palestine is torn into two sects in 1947. Soliman suffers from lungs disease and the Hajja starts treating him. Azouz's wife laments that she hasn't got pregnant yet. Antoine tries to settle things in Tunisia.
Soliman stays at his uncle Al-Taher's house to receive treatment, and he marries Al-Taher's daughter. Sensing that his death is approaching, the Hajj considers leaving a procuration for his son, Azouz. Habiba marries Mostafa who is still married to Zohra as well.
Soliman tells Zohra that Mostafa is having an affair with Habiba and that he gave her a piece of gold jewelry. The Hajj's health goes downhill and Azouz's wife looks after him. When Soliman learns of his father's illness, he rushes to see him.
As Soliman visits his father, the latter gets mad and kicks him out. Abbas is released and he heads to the nightclub where Habiba works and slaps Mostafa. The Hajj passes away and the whole family mourns his death.
Azouz quarrels with his wife and tears all her books. He takes over his aunt's share in the inheritance in light of Soliman's attempts to get him back to his senses. Soliman joins forces with Zohra against Habiba and Mostafa.
An anonymous person breaks into Habiba's house in an attempt to kill her. Soliman divorces Zohra, even though she's pregnant, and Zohra stays at her sister's.
Azouz marries the daughter of Al-Taher who's pregnant with Soliman's child. Azouz's first wife looks after his epileptic sister, and she keeps her pregnancy from him. Soliman accuses Mostafa of plotting to murder Habiba.
Soliman quarrels with Azouz and urges him to return his and his sister's shares in the inheritance. Azouz's first wife gives birth. Mostafa is released and he returns Zohra's money. Aisha dies in childbirth and Azouz promises to take good care of the child.
