Abbas is a wealthy man living with his mother and his sister Radia, who is in love with a poor man who is unable to propose to her due to his poverty. Rabeh is married to Aziza and works with his partner, El Mekky, in their store.
Abbas promises to wed Aziza if she gets a divorce from Rabeh. When El Mekky falls ill, Aziza and her mother-in-law visit him, and he complains of his loneliness and his wish to have children around him. When he learns about his sister's relationship with Tawfik, Abbas grows angry with his sister.
When Rabeh's sweets shop faces losses, Aziza decides to go to the shop to help her husband. Abbas partners up with a guy to open a shop to compete with El Mekky. Abbas's sister tells her mother about her feelings for Tawfik.
As Abbas hires a guy to destroy Rabeh's shop, Rabeh and El Mekky are saddened by the destruction and grow suspicious of Abbas. Tired of all the conspiracies and losses, Rabeh thinks about emigrating. Aziza grows tired of the constant trouble they keep running into.
As El Mekky tries to give Rabeh money to reopen the shop, Abbas asks him to partner up with him in the bakery. Rabeh decides to go to Europe. When Tawfik passes his exams, he proposes to Radia, but Abbas rejects him.
As Rabeh bids his friends farewell, his parents oppose his decision to leave the country, but he insists on going, leaving Aziza and their children behind. Abbas quarrels with the secretary and slaps her.
As Aziza asks her father to let her open the shop, she starts making sweets with Radia's help, restoring it to its former glory. Rabeh sends letters to Aziza and their daughter. El Mekky quarrels with Abbas.
Abbas tries to wed his sister to his partner, Khalifa. As Rabeh continues to look for a job in Europe, his friend tries to get him to distribute drugs. Aziza grows worried when Rabeh fails to call her. Abbas swindles his partner.
As Aziza quarrels with her father over Abbas's share in the shop, his partner gives her documents that incriminate Abbas and gives up his share to her. With Rabeh unaware that he is carrying drugs in his bag, his friend tries to tell him, especially after showing him the money.
Abbas goes to El Mekky's shop and quarrels with the manager. With no news about Rabeh, everyone grows to believe that he wed another woman in France, but the truth is that he wanted to settle down before contacting them.
As Rabeh's father falls ill, he tells his son that he won't be well until he comes back. Aziza meets Rabeh and tells him that she wants a divorce. Abbas tries to force his sister to marry Khalifa, but she insists on marrying Tawfik.
When Aziza gets divorced, her father feels sad for the children. Rabeh's father passes away without seeing his son. As Abbas continues to disapprove of his sister's marriage to Tawfik, he sends his girlfriend to work with Aziza in the shop.
The funeral of Rabeh's father is held. Aziza mourns the passing of her father-in-law. When Khalifa learns that Abbas is implicated in Dawoud's death, he asks to dissolve their partnership and get his money back,
Aziza tells her son that his uncle has gone overboard in his suspicions of her about marrying Yousef. Radia tells Aziza that Abbas wants to marry her. Rabeh's brother learns that Rabeh is dealing drugs.
As Rabeh returns and meets his children, Aziza forgives him for not telling her that he was in prison. Aziza learns that El Mekky is not her father, but her real father, Ibrahim, gave her to him when she was an infant. Abbas gets imprisoned, which gives him a change of heart. Radia marries Tawfik.
