When the soldiers rebel against the Bey, he believes there is a revolt shaping up. Askar Bey gives orders to use bombs against the armed soldiers. The admiral speaks with the soldiers and advises them not to split the country into the Turks and the Igawawen (the Zwawa tribe.)
Khair Al-Din Pasha is enraged to learn of the Bey's order to imprison and kill the rebellious soldiers. Dawga goes to Al-Morsy's palace, and so does Arabia who seeks shelter there. Zubaida tries to get closer to Qassem, who gets mad when he learns that his mother kicked Arabia out.
The Bey feels guilty after executing 6 of the rebellious soldiers. Qassem reminisces over losing Arabia. Arabia goes to Lala Sherifa's house, and the latter suspects her because she's pregnant. Arabia marries Aboud, and Qassem loses consciousness upon receiving the news.
When cholera plagues the country, the concerned Bey meets with his divan members (members of the government) to discuss recent events, but the whole country lives through tragedy as Qassem gets cholera, and the Bey's children die.
Arabia gives birth, all by herself, and Aboud finds no joy in the newborn because he is not his son. Qassem's illness has a toll on him and paralyzes his movement. Aboud wants to sell the baby, so a worried Arabia flees the house. Qassem's mother wants to wed him to Zubaida.
A fortune-teller tells Zubaida that a harsh future awaits her. Despite his approaching marriage, Qassem cannot get over Arabia. Sherifa and the girls prepare for the wedding, and Zubaida tells Qassem that Arabia is amongst the girls doing the preparations.
Qassem meets Arabia at Sherifa's house; he tells her he still loves her and wants to elope with her. Qassem's father threatens to slit his throat if he ever meets Arabia again. When Qassem leaves Arabia after their brief encounter, she gets back with Aboud.
Dawga gives the Bey's wife a magic ring to help her conceive a child, but the Bey's wife accuses Dawga of stealing the ring. Arabia decides to leave Sherifa's house and never come back. When Qassem's room is on fire, he is unable to get up and flee to save his life.
When Qassem miraculously gets up and extinguishes the fire, the family rejoices that he can move again. The country has a wheat-shortage problem. Zubaida has a miserable marriage because Qassem doesn't love her. Qassem's mother searches for Arabia and her son because she wants Qassem to raise his son.
Arabia hides at Abdel Aziz's house. Qassem's father wants to take Qassem's baby away from Arabia. The country's economy hits the skids. The Sheikh wants to sleep with one of Sherifa's girls, but Sherifa reprimands him.
The country's foreign debt continues to accumulate. Khair Al-Din proposes to Jannat, and the Bey approves of their marriage. Sherifa enlists the judge's help to force the Sheikh to leave her and her girls alone. Sabra looks for her daughter.
Arabia runs away when she learns the Bey is looking for her; she goes to Aisha's house. The maid kills Taga. Sabra enters the Bey's palace and Haidar tries to take her out. She threatens to tell Qassem she's his true mother if the Bey doesn't free her daughter.
Qassem learns that Mahbouba is his real mother. As Qassem gets promoted, the Bey offers him a concubine that turns out to be his sister, Sabra. Sabra returns to her parents. Khair Al-Din supports Arabia's son financially. Arabia flees Khair Al-Din's house and returns to Sherifa's.
Arabia goes to Qassem's mother, gives her the baby, and asks to stay with him in Qassem's family's house. Qassem's father tells his son that Arabia is dead. Arabia marries the judge. Qassem learns that Arabia is still alive. Qassem's mother sends her men to kill Arabia and her husband.
