As Misbah travels to the capital to search for work, he lives in a cheap motel. Misbah meets his old friend, Daou, who takes him to the newspaper to meet the director, and work with him as a journalist. Daou offers that he stays with with him.
As Misbah moves to live in Daou's place, he goes with him to propose to the girl he loves, but her family asks for gold and many things, which Daou is unable to provide them. Misbah advises him to marry a working girl, as it is necessary to think with reason and not emotions.
As Daou publishes an ad to find a wife, a woman called Dhahabia calls him, but he is too shy to speak to her, so Misbah meets her and she tells him that she agrees on the marriage on the condition that they raise money to do a big project, so Misbah likes the idea, and he adds an ad for a wife as well.
As Misbah receives many letters, he meets the first woman, who is a businesswoman, and he claims that he owns a leather factory, so she asks him to take part in her projects. He also meets another woman who owns a beauty clinic, and she asks him for money to develop the clinic, so he runs away.
Daou criticizes the new principles and morals of the Tunisian society and how relationships have become based on interests and money. Misbah gets to know a girl named Dora, and goes out with her for lunch.
Misbah tells Daou about Dora and that she is a bourgeois girl whose father is a famous businessman, while Daou is surprised how she can admire a simple man like Misbah. Dora visits Misbah and tells him about her life with her father, his wife, her brother, Zuzu, her only friend.
When Dora tells her father that Misbah wants to marry her, her stepmother and son mock her because Misbah is a poor man from the south. Dora has a psychological crisis, and Zuzu visits her, while Si El Fadhel agrees to meet Misbah.
El Fadhel reluctantly agrees to Misbah's proposal to marry his daughter, because of Dora's bad condition. Zuzu tells Misbah that El Fadhel approves of him. When Misbah's manager in the paper finds out, he treats him well.
As El Fadhel holds his daughter's wedding on Misbah in his house, his wife and her friend mock the way Misbah dress and eat, just as Misbah holds another ceremony in the desert, where he lives and Dora rejoices a lot.
As Misbah becomes the paper manager, he asks the employees to work hard, and asks Daou to develop the paper. Misbah asks the maid to spy on El Fadhel's wife and tell him everything that is happening in the house, and she agrees.
Sahra, the maid, tells Misbah that El Fadhel's wife was planning to put Dora in a mental hospital, and he tells Dora who is jealous over him from Sahra. Daou quarrels with Misbah because he abandoned his principles of establishing an honest paper and only cares for profit through ads.
Sahra records the talk of El Fadhel's wife with her friend, as she tells her that she wants Misbah to bankrupt and to take revenge on him for his marriage to Dora. Misbah gives the recording to El Fadhel who makes sure that his wife is villainous. Misbah is delighted by Dora's pregnancy.
