With the help of his best friend, younger brother, and dad, the recently divorced Rel tries to make a new start on the West Side of Chicago.

When Rel finally decides to stop sitting idly around the house and take Brittany, Nat, and his father to brunch, his plans go south as a gang takes over the laundry room where all his clothes are.

For the first time since Rel's divorce, his children come to visit him, so he endeavors to make the day enjoyable for them.

As Rel tries to move on with his life and start dating again, he finds himself in a sticky situation and winds up seeking Brittany's advice.

Rel, his father, Nat, and Brittany gather on Halloween night to watch a spooky movie about zombies, but they end up at each other's throats as the movie causes a heated dispute.

Nat is overjoyed that he's landed a job, however, his joy is short-lived as his boss starts behaving improperly around him, so Rel and Brittany set out to help him.

After a former bandmate of Dad's gets admitted to Rel's hospital, the latter, along with Nat and Brittany, decides to find out the reason why The Dragons, Dad's band, broke up.

As a blizzard hits the city, Rel, who's unable to leave the hospital, makes a new friend; meanwhile, Brittany and Nat get trapped in a bar with Brittany's overly sensitive ex.

As Brittany's mom pays her daughter a surprise visit, wishing to patch things up with her, Brittany has misgivings about her, while Rel tries to talk her into making up with her.

Rel has to deal with a bigoted patient at the hospital; meanwhile, everyone gets hung up on the terrible rap song released by Brittany's ex.

As Rel tries to come to terms with the passing of his mom, he decides to go to a therapist; meanwhile, his dad holds a celebration to pay tribute to her, but can hardly get a grip on himself.

Upon learning that his daughter had a problem at school, Rel heads to Cleveland; meanwhile, Brittany tries to help Nat set goals through creating a vision board.
