As Junior decides he's not ready to start college and takes a gap year, Dre and Bow try to make him change his mind. Ruby thinks that Diane and Jack should have separate rooms.

When Jack and Diane don't want to take part in the family Halloween costume, Dre and Bow decide to figure out a way to make them change their mind. Junior becomes too friendly with a girl he met at church.

When the family finds out that the twins don't know the music of Prince, each one of them shows Jack and Diane what his iconic songs meant to them.

As Bow's late father's birthday approaches, her mother comes to visit, which makes Bow throw a party in his memory. Diane goes to a MMA fight with Mason.

Dre makes Junior work as an intern at his office, while Bow leaves Ruby in charge of Devante.

Dre is worried that Bow is becoming too obsessed with a new colleague at work. Ruby and Diane try to stop Junior from turning his room with Jack into a frat house.

When the Johnson family go to the movies on Christmas, they can't decide which movie to see. Junior starts to reassess his future plans after an embarrassing situation with an ex-girlfriend.

When Jack and Diane go camping with Dre for school, he decides to take them to a fancy hotel instead. Bow is upset when a coworker makes a remark about her school after she is given an award.

Dre and Bow are enraged after they see Diane's class photo, which puts her in bad lighting. They confront the principal about it and end up having a discussion about colorism in the family.

When Dre's teenage cousin Kyra comes to live with them for a while, Dre and Bow struggle to make her adjust to life in the suburbs. Jack and Diane try to dig up any information about Kyra.

Dre and Bow have a discussion with the kids about identity politics. Diane is sad after her crush starts hanging out with another girl. Dre and Pops ruin Junior's Valentine's Day date.

Junior manages to impress the team at Stevens and Lido. After Bow finds out that Kyra is good at chemistry, Kyra refuses to go to a specialized school.

Dre decides to teach the twins about their black history, as he gives a special presentation at the school assembly.

Dre and Bow are enraged by the insulting way they were treated at the school of Valley Glen Prep where they wanted to send Kyra. Junior wants to get a full-time job at Stevens and Lido.

When Kyra's father shows up and wants to take her back with him, Bow and Dre try to make him consider leaving her with them so that she can have a better future.

Dre freaks out after Junior tells him that Josh is his mentor. Bow becomes the hot mom after the twins show their friends a video of her dancing.

Dre and Bow prepare for Devante's birthday, and while Bow wants to take into account the new methods of child-rearing, Dre pays no attention to that. Jack and Diane try to make Ruby give up her bad habits.

Dre decides to chaperone the twins' school dance to keep Jack from getting into trouble. Junior's girlfriend has a fight with him for spending too much time with Devante.

When Dre's sister Rhonda comes to visit, she takes the twins to her black neighborhood so they would get familiar with their community. Junior tries to help Bow with a work issue.

When Jack makes the football team, Dre couldn't get any happier, while Bow thinks it's a bad idea. Junior becomes overprotective of Diane when he drives her to her date with Jalen.

Dre is worried about letting the twins spend the weekend with their friends' family in the desert. Pops has to confront himself about the way he treats women following an incident with Junior.

Dre and Bow try to persuade Junior to return back to college after he's offered his dream job with Migos.
