As Michael steps in to manipulate events in the hopes that the humans would reform themselves, he tries to get them to meet and influence each other, but his attempts may have consequences he never accounted for.

With Michael's plans running into major issues, he resorts to some unconventional methods to get his way.

As Michael and Janet continue to try and steer the humans towards a certain course, Eleanor is forced to examine the reason behind her outlandish behavior and her connection to the group.

When the humans learn about the Bad Place, each of them spirals as they learn that they are doomed, only for Eleanor to realize that her personality has been changed due to her experience with the others.

Jason tries to help his father, but he soon realizes that there is another who deserves his help more. Chidi makes a sacrifice in the name of protecting Simone's afterlife.

Both Eleanor and Tahani reckon with their troubled past as the former confronts her mother and comes to terms with her enjoying life with another family, while the latter reaches out to Kamilah as they try to heal from their parents' cruelty.

Eleanor is forced to come to terms with her past when Michael shows her memories of her relationship with Chidi, but she soon grows to doubt their autonomy in making the decision to be together.

As Shawn makes his move against Michael, Janet, and the humans, Michael comes to suspect that something is not right with the system that determined who goes to the Good Place.

Upon discovering that the points system is rigged, Michael and Janet work to figure out a way to fix it, while a confrontation between Eleanor and Chidi leaves Janet's void on the verge of collapsing.

As Michael tries to get a committee to investigate the points system, the love triangle between Janet, Jason, and Tahani leaves him with a clearer idea about what happened to the system.

As Jason makes a plea that convinces Gen to reconsider the points system, Chidi comes up with a suggestion to prove that Shawn is wrong about humankind, but Michael soon discovers that the suggestion might backfire on them.

Eleanor is forced to step in to cover for Michael. Chidi realizes that he must make a sacrifice to avoid sabotaging the experiment, even if it means he has to forget Eleanor.
