One year after the consciousness code was released, Max, Mia, and Flash attempt to take care of the sentinel synths. As conflict brews between the humans and the synths, the latter community is left in a compromising position.

With Leo out of the woods, Max confronts a challenge to his leadership role. Niska goes on the hunt for the synth terrorists. Laura tries to figure out the true plans of the Dryden Commission.

Max's latest decision causes an uproar in the community. Laura pursues the truth about Operation Basswood. Niska's mind is violated by the synth terrorists.

Max accidentally stirs up Agnes's trauma. Mattie struggles with her responsibility for the events of Day Zero. Niska hears of the mysterious figure named the Synth Who Sleeps.

Reassured by a sudden decision from the Dryden Commission, Max eases the restriction on the synth community. Mia challenges the Dryden Commission to be more inclusive. Mattie is betrayed by a new friend.

When Agnes goes off the rails, it's Mia who is left to bear the consequences. Laura is faced with a terrible choice. Niska achieves some progress in her search for the Synth Who Sleeps.

Max is overthrown as terrorists get the run of the Railyard. Laura gets to the bottom of Operation Basswood. Niska is found by the Synth Who Sleeps.

As tensions between the human and synth communities come to head, Laura blows the whistle on the horrifying details of Basswood. Mia makes a sacrifice to end the violence. Mattie learns a shocking prediction for her unborn child.
