Fitz has a plan to improve the country as he starts his second term. Olivia's absence causes an issue among Mellie's team, and she struggles to deal with her son's death.

Cyrus goes out to enlist a powerful couple who are influential on the subject of gun control so that Fitz can have the greatest impact possible with his State of the Union address. Meanwhile, Mellie's personal battle makes headlines across the country.

After her daughter disappears, an old acquaintance makes a strange encounter with Cyrus at breakfast, and Jake uses his connections to track down some information. In the meantime, David goes above and above to establish his credibility, while Mellie grows fixated on a national news story.

Fitz requests that Olivia end an issue that has the potential to ruin the Grant family's image. Rowan calls on an old buddy to do his grubby work while Huck and Quinn discover there is more to Catherine's case than they first believed.

Olivia becomes sidetracked from Catherine's case when Jake doesn't pick up when she calls. In other scenes, Fitz seeks clarification over Jerry's passing, David experiences a taste of victory, and Cyrus keeps being entangled with Michael.

A condemned assassin calls Olivia, claiming he was falsely accused, and Mellie finds herself drawn to a former first lady whose life experiences bear a remarkable resemblance to her own. Fitz takes a startling action while Elizabeth gets closer to tainting the White House.

Olivia asks Tom for further information because she doesn't think Jake is guilty, while Huck takes foolish risks.

Fitz and Jake are still fighting over Olivia, but she needs them to put more effort into defeating Command. When Cyrus returns to the White House, his adventures finally catch up with him, but Elizabeth North's scheme is far more ambitious than anyone could have imagined.

Quinn and Huck discover a scheme involving West Angola. Jake pursues Rowan. Cyrus's lewd images surface online, and the President undervalues Andrew.

Olivia is taken captive and kept in an unidentified place. Jake goes out to the streets and chases after a car he thinks Olivia is in after concluding that the kidnappers have taken Olivia out of the building.

The crew rallies to do whatever it takes to locate Olivia, who is still missing.

Everyone seeks to gain entry as an auction for Olivia takes place on the open market. Fitz and the White House attempt to gain entry, but they have to work with terrorists to accomplish that. Huck, Jake, and Quinn attempt to attend the auction as well, but they have trouble receiving invitations.

The gladiators go to extreme lengths to save Olivia Pope as the bidding goes on, but the White House is afraid they might lose her forever.

The nation is alerted to a catastrophe in D.C., and the White House has to cope with their troublesome vice president.

When an unexpected guest provides intimate knowledge about B613, which has the potential to topple the White House and demolish Pope and Associates, David Rosen is taken off guard.

When Olivia learns of a lady aiming to reveal the sex lives of some of Washington, DC's most prominent people, she takes immediate action. Elizabeth, however, worries that Mellie's sister would hurt their chances of becoming politicians.

The gladiators intervene to control the situation when Michael finds himself in a difficult situation and put pressure on Cyrus to forward the wedding. In the interim, David initiates the process of carrying out his strategy to overthrow B613.

In an attempt to bolster his argument, David seeks out former B613 agents. A congressman urges Olivia to assist his father in avoiding his impending execution.

The stakes are higher for those pursuing B613 with Rowan's return. Elsewhere, Fitz needs a significant bill to pass.

Cyrus is forced to defend Mellie when the country turns against her, and those attempting to overthrow B613 are forced to take extreme measures to protect their safety.

When Olivia gets hired to stand up for a woman in the Navy, Vice President Ross goes one step further in her defiance of the Grant administration. Meanwhile, Mellie's Senate campaign continues to be difficult, and Quinn and Huck need to do everything in their power to find out more about B613.

Olivia and the group ultimately take significant action to remove Command. Meanwhile, Mellie's destiny is determined by the election results.
