A violent confrontation between the Italian Vada family, African-American immigrants, and the Cannon family occurs in Kansas City in the 1950s. Loy Cannon assumes the family's leadership role in the fight against the Italian mafia.

The Smutnys family finds itself caught up in the conflict of criminal families, and Josto Fada, an ambitious young man and leader of the Italian mafia, meets with his uncle Gaetano to devise a plan. While Loy challenges the status quo within his group.
