After quitting her job as a college professor, Kat, a single 39-year-old woman, decides to use the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a cat café.

Kat finds herself in a predicament when her mother sets her up on a blind date on the same night she's supposed to perform with Max at a talent competition.

When Kat wins a vacation for two to Puerto Rico, she has trouble finding someone to go with her, and ends up lying about going alone, while secretly staying in a hotel in Louisville.

After Sheila temporarily moves in with Kat, they end up clashing with each other, so they go to a couples' therapy in hopes of patching things up between them.

When Phil refuses to bake a wedding cake for a man who used to date his ex-boyfriend, it causes bad publicity for the café. Kat and Max confront each other about their feelings towards one another.

Kat decides to join the local gym to get in shape for a chance to be nominated for the 20 under 40 list. During a children's book reading, Phil finds out that the book he's supposed to read is offensive.

After going to the gynecologist, Kat has to make a decision regarding freezing her eggs. Phil meets with an elderly bachelor whom he has been catfishing.

Kat and Phil bond with each other after they go with Randi to a nightclub, as each one reveals to the other their fears and secrets. Randi is bothered by Daniel's lack of jealousy.

After Kat goes on a date with Oscar, things take a turn for the worse when she's unable to get over her feelings for Max. Randi is having trouble picking the right gift for her six-month anniversary with Daniel.

Carter clashes with Kat after she ends up voting against his proposal to lengthen the hours for his bar at the local business council. Randi enlists the help of Phil with her photography class.

Kat accidentally finds out a secret about Daniel's past which he kept from Randi. Kat finds herself in an embarrassing situation when she sends a sexy picture of her to Max instead of Oscar.

Kat asks Max to give her dancing lessons, after Oscar asks her to go salsa dancing. After taking too many sleeping pills, Kat ends up doing something stupid that jeopardizes her friendship with Max.

Kat holds a funeral for one of her cats after he dies on the first anniversary of the cafe's opening. After running into a problem with the cat's ashes, Kat is torn between her feelings for both Oscar and Max.
