In the year 1506 in Milan; when Caterina de Cremona dies of poison, Leonardo gets arrested and charged with killing her, causing him to reflect on the time he first met her when he was an apprentice in Andrea del Verrocchio’s studio.
As Leonardo receives new commissions, namely the ‘Portrait of Ginevra de Benci’ and ‘The Adoration of the Magi’, a dicey undertaking threatens to sabotage his burgeoning career.
Leonardo pursues the patronage of the Duke Regent, Ludovico Sforza, only to be assigned to put on a theatrical presentation instead of a painting. As Leonardo’s mission proves more taxing than he expected, a new relationship helps spark his imagination.
At Ludovico’s request, Leonardo sets to create an unexampled sculpture of the duke’s father, whereupon bizarre occurrences ensue, where Leonardo becomes Gian Galeazzo Sforza, the young duke of Milan.

Upon returning to Florence, Leonardo accepts an offer to paint the portrait of Lisa Gherardini, which will later be known as the ‘Monna Lisa’. Leonardo travels to Imola, where he’s hired by the appreciative Cesare Borgia.
After being reunited with Caterina, Leonardo becomes troubled by the burgeoning popularity of his new rival, Michelangelo, whereupon he receives a new commission to paint a large fresco depicting the Battle of Anghiari.
With Leonardo’s execution in the offing, Stefano tries to help him and prove his innocence. As all his efforts seem futile, Stefano realizes that the secret to save the most gifted artist Milan ever saw lies only in said artist’s hands.
