Wade has a fleeting encounter in a parking lot with a woman, with whom he becomes taken, so he decides to look for her; meanwhile, his younger daughter, Natalie, itches to get her ears pierced, and Michelle, who’s seeking a degree in business, waits for replies from colleges she’s applied to.

Wade’s taken aback by his date Shannon’s odd living arrangements, to which he tries to reconcile himself. Wade’s older daughter, Grace, tries to adapt to her new high school, whereas Michelle finds her algebra course at college too hard.

Wade struggles to find a way to celebrate Shannon’s birthday. A gift from Forrest to Ben and Michelle’s son, Noah, leads to an open talk about racism.

When Ben helps Wade get a job where he works, the two clash over their different approaches to work; meanwhile, Delia disapproves of Michelle parenting style.

As Wade introduces Shannon to his friends, an embarrassing situation ensues. Noah gets fed up with being treated like a child, so he seeks to befriend older kids.

Wade struggles to find a way to tell his daughters that Shannon is staying over. Ben isn’t happy about Michelle’s spending too much time on her studies.

Seeking to spend more quality time together, Delia and Forrest play tennis, only to have their plan misfire, as they become fiercely competitive. Michelle is surprised to find out why Grace doesn’t want to learn how to drive.

As the group spends the night at an escape room, Wade misspeaks, causing Shannon to be embarrassed.

Wade’s endeavor to do a favor to Shannon’s ex-husband leads to an ironic twist of events.

Delia and Michelle help Natalie hold on to her mother’s memory by holding a ceremony celebrating her life. With their children partaking in a competition to raise funds for the school, Forrest and Ben become too competitive themselves.

Wade’s long-distance relationship with Shannon turns sour. Forrest can’t figure out how to break it to Delia that she’s the reason why he’s insomniac.

With Ben nervous about his upcoming colonoscopy, Wade and Forrest decide to have the same procedure at the same time to support him. While Michelle is trying to steer clear of her sister Meg’s problems with her boyfriend, Delia finds herself knee-deep in them.

With Wade’s relationship with Shannon coming to an end, he decides to move on. Delia makes a startling discovery about herself, while Michelle takes charge of the financial affairs of Ben’s business.
