When Marie, a village girl, falls in love with a German officer in Alsace, which is under Nazi occupation, the villagers accuse her of treason, and for a while everyone believes she is dead. With the help of a French soldier, she crosses the border with her boyfriend, but the tragedy of war overshadows their love story.
