A fire breaks out in the Ceylon port warehouse while Shihab is in the middle of a deal to sell dates. Nazim convinces him to agree to sell the shipment to him. Hamdan tries to evade arrest because he does not have residency papers.
As Nazim takes Shihab to a party of the English merchants, the latter is enraged by Oliver's punishment of the fire's perpetrators by flogging them. He is forced to cancel his trip to Bombay because Ghanem is hospitalized. Mahinda frees Hamdan from prison.
Shihab's daughter contracts smallpox and her condition worsens. The people of Bombay struggle with the disease, and Hamdan considers obtaining an artificial limb from the British and claims to be one of their officers.
Smallpox takes the lives of many residents, and Shihab falls ill. When he recovers, he tells his wife that he wants to marry another woman. Thomas and Olivia return to Ras Al Khaimah with a vaccine for the disease, and Nasser decides to look for Sanad.
As he prepares to travel to Bombay, Shihab asks Salem to accompany him there, while he marries Ternem. When the English pursue Hamdan, he decides to travel.
Things get worse with Shihab because of the ban on importing dates, while Nasser seeks to help him. Hamdan refuses to return with Shihab to the ship's crew. Shihab quarrels with Sanjay when he prevents some of the ship's passengers from boarding because they do not have money.
At sea, Shihab's ship is exposed to a severe storm, and Sanjay tries to kill Shihab. The teacher, Abdul Rahman, arrives in Ras Al Khaimah to start his job, and Nasser decides to help him. Jaber returns to the village despite Misbih's objection.
Shihab reaches Ceylon and rents a house from Nazim. Abdul Rahman starts preparing for school. Hamdan finds a baby and Sanjay refuses to take him with them.
Hamdan adopts the baby. Nazim helps Shihab open his shop in Ceylon. Abdul Rahman decides to continue his teaching plan in Ras Al Khaimah and Jaber denounces women's education.
As he objects to Abdul Rahman's work and refuses to let him teach women, Misbih burns down the school. Oliver seeks to close down Shihab's store in Ceylon, and the British police arrest the latter.
Nasser suspects that Misbih burned the school and Abdul Rahman insists on rebuilding it again. Nazim tries in vain to mediate to get Shihab out of prison, and William advises the latter to leave Ceylon.
Hamdan decides to help Shihab with his problem. Some men beat Abdul Rahman to prevent him from teaching. Alex tries to convince Nasser to continue the oil exploration work. Ternem gives birth, while Sanad dies.
As Shihab is released, he mourns Sanad's death. In Ras Al Khaimah, Misbih's men block the women's path to prevent them from going to school. Hamdan looks for Shihab to save him from Oliver.
Olivia berates Alex for not letting the wounded soldiers into their home. Nazim offers to bribe the governor to cooperate with him against Oliver. Shihab asks Ternem to stay with him until he finishes his business and returns to his country. Hamdan marries his girlfriend.
After winning the tea auction, Oliver forces Shihab to leave, threatening to arrest Hamdan. Shihab finds no way but to save his friend. Abdul Rahman begins teaching again after Nasser arrests Misbih.
