An Egyptian novelist, whose full name is Mohamed Youssef Youssef El Kaeid. He was born in Beheira in 1944. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Egyptian novel, and has been influenced by the style of Naguib Mahfouz, with whom he had a close friendship. He received many awards, including the State Appreciation Award in Literature in 2008. His novel War in the Land of Egypt was ranked fourth among the best hundred Arab novels. He has written many novellas, and many of his fictional works have been adapted into series and films, including Citizen Masrey, The President's Visit, and Upper Egypt Train.
