Maryam Nouhy |
An Egyptian folk singer born in Basyoun, Gharbia in 1928. She married fellow folk singer Attia Ismail El Safarty and their daughters are retired singer Suzan Attia and actress Hanan Attia. She was discovered by media personality and folk historian Zakaria El Hijjawi, who brought her to Cairo and introduced her to the public. She sang Sufi poems, folk tales, and songs. She also, along with folk singer Khadra Mohamed Khedr, performed the epic tale of Ayoub and Naasa. She was featured on an album of singer Angham, entitled "Wahdanya". Among her credits are Edge of the Sword (1986) and I'm the Doctor (1968).
