Indian actor and screenwriter, born in 1937. He worked as a university professor at the M. H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering. His beginning in acting was surprising, as the legend Dilip Kumar saw him performing in a play in college. Dilip was impressed by his acting and signed him up for his first movie. He made his debut in Daag: A Poem of Love (1973).
After that, he worked in Bollywood, with more than 300 films in Hindi and Urdu. He wrote dialogues for more than 1,000 films and contributed to the success of Amitabh Bachchan as he wrote dialogues for some of his very successful films at the box office, such as Amar Akbar Anthony (1977). He received an award from the American Federation of Muslims from India (AFMI) for his services to the Muslim community in India. He won several Filmfare Awards and a Screen Award. He passed away on December 31, 2018.
