A Syrian writer born in Aleppo. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University. He worked as a lawyer in Aleppo and held several jobs there before moving to Damascus in 1966. He kept working in government jobs in Damascus until he retired to pursue writing full-time.
He started with poetry and then turned to short stories, articles, and criticism. His works were translated to French, English, German, and Russian. He was a founding member of the Arab Writers' Association in 1969. He founded Eshbelia Publishing House in Damascus and published several works. He's known for House Secrets (2002). He died on 26 November 2020.
