Emily Watson is a British film and stage actress. She studied English literature at the University of Bristol, and then began working a few years later at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992. Her film debut came in 1996 with "Breaking the Waves," a haunting yet powerful character study, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress. She played Daniel Day-Lewis' love interest in "The Boxer" (1997), which was her first film to gain popularity in America. Her extensive film credits include major roles in "Hilary and Jackie" (1998), for which she was nominated for a best actress Oscar, "Angela's Ashes" (1999), "Gosford Park" (2001), "Red Dragon" (2002), "Equilibrium" (2002) and "Punch-Drunk Love" opposite Adam Sandler. Her recent credits include Spielberg's "War Horse" (2011) and "Anna Karenina" (2012). |
