An American actor, director, and writer born on May 6, 1915 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States. He graduated from the Todd School District in Woodstock, Illinois. The first short film he directed, wrote, and starred in was Twelfth Night (1933). He collaborated with John Houseman on compositions for the Mercury Theater in 1937. His most important works include Citizen Kane (1941), Touch of Evil (1958), and The Stranger (1946), and the movie The Lady from Shanghai (1947). He married actress Virginia Nicholson, actress Rita Hayworth, and actress Paula Morey. In 1971, he was awarded an honorary Oscar in honor of his creative and diverse art before his death on October 10, 1985 in Los Angeles, California. |
