An American writer, producer, actor, and director, born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in psychology. Shortly after graduating and marrying, he taught himself screenwriting and moved to Los Angeles with his wife. He was one of thirty people selected to join the writing program at Columbia Pictures. From this experience, he acquired an agent and began writing full-time. His first film, which he co-wrote, was Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988). His most notable works include Wrong Turn, The Vampire Diaries, and The Marine. His directorial debut was the short film Under the Car (1992). He has also acted and appeared in several works, in addition to working as a producer. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America West.
