Hungarian film director and producer, born on September 16, 1893. He was the first film producer to introduce Hollywood styles into British film studios. He owned a film production company. He produced films in Budapest, Paris and Berlin before heading to Hollywood. After spending several years there, he settled in Britain in 1932. He was knighted by King George VI in 1942. Among his notable works: The Thief of Bagdad (1940), The Third Man (1949), and Marius (1931). He passed away on January 23, 1956.
